Après l’assassinat de Dr. Martin Luther King Jr en 1968, les tensions raciales grandissent sensiblement dans le pays.Danny Scher à l’époque lycéen au Palo Alto High School décide d’organiser un concert dans le but de créer une cohésion raciale et collecter des fonds pour le Comité International de son école. Son rêve est d’y faire jouer Thelonious Monk qu’il réussit par ailleurs à convaincre. Après de nombreux rebondissements, le concert a finalement lieu et c’est un véritable triomphe.
