When Autumn bumps into Jet back in Australia after years apart, she questions fate’s intentions for crossing their paths not once, but twice. Autumn knows it is a risk to fall for an old fling, especially as he is now her new boss. And Jet is hiding secrets of his own. About the author

Jacquie is an Australian best-selling author who lives in Central Queensland, Australia, where it's always hot, and humidity coats the skin, summer or winter. After writing her first story over a decade ago, it didn’t take long for the writing bug to take her over completely, and she happily did away with her business career. Now she spends her days wrapped up in her imagination, creating characters, exploring alternative realities, and meeting a host of characters who occupy her mind at first, then eventually her books.
Her 2018 novel, Bittersweet, was a finalist in multiple categories in the Australian Romance Readers Association awards in 2019 and a finalist in the Romance Writers of Australia Romantic Book of the Year Awards in 2019. Jacquie has a business degree, studied postgraduate writing, editing and publishing at The University of Queensland, and earned a Master of Letters (Creative Writing) from Central Queensland University. But all that means is that she's super-dedicated to writing the best books she can for readers to enjoy.

Third person narrative detracts and makes it harder to connect to the characters

I was somewhat reminded of the Australian author Tahlia Newland and her magical realism. There is the same straightforward simplicity, but under it, so much is going on.
A wonderful journey, with unexpected twists. Actually, that's how I'd describe "The Paler Shade of Autumn" -- an unexpected romance, but a charming one.

I also liked the fact that the book also explores important social issues such as childhood poverty & neglect, without overdoing that theme.

A pleasant read. I think you will like it.

Autumn's gift added an interesting touch to the story line and the author was able to make this gift seem believable and plausible in today's modern world. The description and clarity of the visions and insights that Autumn experiences made me appreciate that you can meet someone, for five minutes or so, and never truly appreciate the kind of life they may have endured.
Overall the book was a light easy read and I would definitely recommend it to the person who believes that true loves exists and it is possible to find your soul mate.
