Mistakes.

We all make them. But when is a mistake too big to forgive? What happens when the consequences of our mistakes are so disastrous, they cause excruciating pain to everyone we hold near and dear?

San Francisco's Dr. Morgan Drake makes one mistake. One colossal mistake that could cost him everything and everyone he loves—including himself.

When interior designer, Zoë Drake sees small changes in her husband her investigations point to a mammoth problem. The happy marriage and great relationship they share quickly begins to evaporate. What’s worse—it’s all happening when Zoë’s going through some changes of her own—at a time when she might need Morgan the most.

With a husband who is at times completely absent, a child who increasingly blames himself for his parents’ issues, and a cryptic call that introduces the element of danger and fear, Zoë will soon realize that there is a painful side of love. As their world falls apart will there be anything that can secure their bond, or will this chapter of their lives come to a catastrophic end?

The Painful Side of Love is a follow-up novella to Rebecca Rohman’s romantic suspense novel, Love M.D. If you like romance with a tad of steam, a huge injection of suspense and being taken on a roller-coaster of emotions, then this novella is for you.

I really enjoyed this book by Rebecca Rohman
I was intrigued from the first sentence, right until the end. The journey was an emotional one but it's wrapped up completely and eaves you all warm and fuzzy.
It was a tough subject matter to tackle but Rebecca did it in a beautiful way, you felt each and every characters emotion, heartbreak, happiness and laughter
It was nice to be reunited with the rest of the crew; their relationships are still just as strong as they were when we first met them

If you haven't read Ms. Rohman's work before, you are in for a treat. She has this magical way of weaving you into the story so you feel every emotion like it was your own. Even though this is a novella there is so much jam packed into the story. There is suspense, drama, gut punching moments and sweet and tender scenes. You definitely have to read Love M.D to fully appreciate the story but that is certainly not a chore. It was an incredible tale. But I digress. The Painful Side of Love was a tear jerking, gut clenching and heart racing journey.

We are reunited with Dr Morgan and Zoe and it is so good to see them again. However, almost immediately, an incident at work cause a problem for Dr Morgan. One that will impact not only him but his family.
*"Honestly Zoe, right now a part of me feels like you all would be better off without me. My actions in the last week have done nothing but cost the people I love and care about hurt, pain, and shame."*

Despite Zoe trying to reach out to her husband, Morgan pulls back into himself. If that weren't hard enough, more dangers lurk in the shadows and Zoe is doing everything she can to hold onto her family.

I won't go into more detail because I don't want to spoilt it but I will say this. While reading this story, I was reminded of the movie, the Butterfly Effect. This tale is exactly that. It shows the ripple effect of how one decision a person makes can have far reaching consequences. While our decisions are our own, they have a profound impact on people we love and people we haven't even met. That's why it is important to remember that our actions have consequences and can have untold repercussions on our loved ones and strangers.

I love that Rebecca Rohman takes us beyond the HEA with her cast of characters. Zoe and Morgan found love and parenthood but life isn’t always easy. Morgan has to face the worst failing a surgeon can have which sends him spiraling, unable to deal with the guilt. As Zoe tries to connect with her husband, strange phone calls start happening but then their worst fears are realized when their son is kidnapped. We get to experience all the highs and lows as this great couple deals with all the challenges life throws at them and work to find ways to be stronger together. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Endearing Love Like No Other 25 April 2017
By Liz Castillo - Published on Amazon.com

Every time I get a new Rebecca Rohman book I get this excited yet scared feeling. Excited because I love Rebecca's writing, but scared because her writing is intense and heart stopping. The Painful Side of Love is everything I love about Rebecca's writing in a stunning novella.

Life and love is never easy, but having that special someone to stand by you through the tough times is significant. Through the ups and downs Morgan and Zoë has been a strong team, but the lastest down has Morgan reeling and Zoë left alone to pick up the pieces. Can Zoë find away to bring Morgan back from the brink before things get any for precarious? Are will Zoë be facing a life on her own?

I seriously couldn't put this down. The intense drama pulls you in, grips your heart, and tugs at your emotions. Reasons behind Morgan's recent mood is heart-wrenching to say the least. I can't image how I would have acted in his position. What I loved was Zoë's perseverance. They way she strives to keep her life together, safe, and loved is her important to her. Her child, her life, her marriage has always comes first and now is no different. She's a very strong woman that I admire.

Morgan's actions was costly, but in the end he will always be there for his family. He's a man of honor and has a heart of gold. He stands up for what is right, even if it makes him look bad. He's a man you can't help but love.

Over all I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's a phenomenal story that keeps the reader enthralled until the extraordinary end.

Zoë is becoming the strong women I always knew she was. She's going through some things that no mother and wife should go through. No matter what she stays strong for her husband Morgan and her child. She is an extraordinary women to do what she does for her family.
Morgan has made a fatal mistake. He loses a paitent and it becomes hard for him to handle. Falling into a depression he may not get out of Zoe does everything she can to help.
This was a short little tale that even after an hea things sometimes can go wrong and how you deal with it makes you a stronger person. Life is never all rainbows and fairy tales and this book shows it. Stay strong ladies and gents because it is a heart breaking book but amazingly done. 5 stars.

Each page of The Painful Side of Love was squeezing my heart and I was holding my breath and hoping for the best.

Since reading the story, I've thought about the impact I have on the people around me. That's what Ms. Rohman's writing does. She touches on real issues and she handles them with such sensitivity and grace that you can't help but continue to think about the story long after you finish the final page. There is such emotion woven into this story that you'll need to take a moment to catch your breath. With the intense emotion and suspenseful drama, there are beautiful tender moments and yes, sexy scenes to break up the tension. I loved the cover but after finishing the story, the imagery and colours held so much more meaning. Really a superb read that I recommend for everyone.
5.0 out of 5 stars Superb! 25 April 2017
By Books Laid Bare - Published on Amazon.com

There is never a dull moment when reading a book by Rebecca Rohman, because she is inherently able to pack so much emotional content into her work that over and above the time you spend completely absorbed in the story, you will spend almost as long contemplating the message that seems to run just beneath the surface, the message that almost encourages you to look at life with a fresh perspective.
I love that she places such and emphasis not only on family but on consequence, on never taking anything or anyone for granted.
The natural timber of the story was to allow it to both ebb and flow between chapters, some of which had me mentally clapping my hands and others where I could almost feel my spirit wain. The quality of the writing is so good that the pain form the page is physical, it has a tangible presence and that has the ability at time to take my breath away.
When it comes to a relationship, Zoe and Morgan have the sort of marriage that is the envy of others, the sort of relationship that many of us would ultimately aspire to have. The depth of feeling is complete, but it Is not without the need for hard work and patience and that especially is what I like about this author work, he tells it how it is not how we might want it to be. Because as much as they go together hand in glove that doesn’t mean that there isn’t the opportunity for what they have to slip from their grasp, for one of them to retreat to a place that is perilously close to being just out of reach.
I am sorry that I am being elusive but I don’t want to spoil the book so I can’t give any more than I already have, the angst is ramped up and the mystery and danger elevated but all within the carefully constricted reason that this author has calculated constructed and that is no mean feat.
Overwhelmingly fabulous, you will fall head over heels, yet again for the quality of this author work.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great read 26 April 2017

The Painful Side of love was a heart wrenching 5 star read.

We start with a huge loss for Dr. Morgan and he is devastated and broken. He made a mistake and now someone is gone because of it. Morgan blames himself for the loss.

Zoe is struggling to support Morgan while he withdraws from her and everything else around him. I had a few near heart attacks with some of the things that Morgan pulled on Zoe. She is also having to deal with some things regarding his mother’s death as well and she doesn’t have the support she needs from Morgan. Things seem to be getting worse instead of better. Will Zoe be able to keep things together for her family?

There is so much more to this emotionally draining read, it was quite the rollercoaster of emotions. I had tears in my eyes several times. There are some shocking things that happen that really add alot to the story. The secondary characters were great. This was a story that really makes you think about what could happen with one little mistake and how lives can spiral out of control. Luckily for Zoe and Morgan they get their HEA but it wasn’t an easy path. The ending couldn’t have been more perfect.
