A timely novel and an interesting read full of intrigue, politics, travel, history.. Full of imagination and twists and turns to the plot. Lots of secret teachings and ancient knowledge. The author has a great way of evoking a mood and I found myself being transported all over the world, getting caught up in the story, I felt like I was sitting in the cinema watching a movie - a movie which took me on a physical and historical mystery journey!
When reading a book that is dealing with the thriller genre and has strong religious elements to it, it is very easy to start by making comparisons to other books such as the Da Vinci Code. This book is one that deserves to be recognised in its own right as a great read for thriller fans, not just another book that can be likened to the writings of Dan Brown. From the outset Birney manages to paint a vivid picture for the reader, which is almost cinematic in scope. The Temple of Vimala to the Riverside Church, the atmosphere of each location seeps off the pages as you read transporting you from your favourite reading corner to places half the world away (and slightly closer to home too). The characterisation in Pure Vision is wonderfully done. These are not just cookie cutter characters that you would lift out of any thriller book and place in dangerous circumstances; they develop very nicely throughout the story with my favourite being Jarret Williamson. One of the nicest touches in this book is the image of the fragment of the Jeremiah scroll that finds its way into the text, seeing it on the page brings the book to life even more than the descriptive talents of Birney do. The use of short phrases that are set apart from the rest of the text to describe action, such as Maggie searching on her computer “SEARCH: Propaganda Due” are also really effective devices that help to make the story more dynamic. Even in places where other authors would see the tension and action decline as they have to wade through problem areas of plot, or revert to clichés in order to keep the pace of the book going, Birney doesn’t have to and the ebb and flow of the narrative is enough to bring you to the edge of your seat, let you relax ever so slightly before you are plunged back into white-knuckle moments. The chapters are short too, making it easy to read on the train or during those times of the day when you only have a few minutes to spare in your busy day. This book is a great read and will delight thriller fans whether they are Da Vinci Code fans or not.
The book centers around Maggie Seline, a reporter, who finds a controversial solution to the perpetual problems in the Middle East. It fuses the engaging topics of mythology, conspiracy and powerful artifacts, and sets it in the modern politics of the Israel/Palestine conflict. Which at the time of writing (and, I assume, the foreseeable future) is in the news every day.
There's action right from the get go, people mobilizing all over the world to grab artifacts, I was reminded of Indiana Jones; while the drama continues we start to become aware of the reason behind this new found interest in ancient history - the Middle East. This is the first book of its kind that I've read with such current issues discussed; not just abstract parallels we can link to current situations, but the actual problem in the actual place, it even poses a solution!
Dramatic, exciting and so relevant, Pure Vision took me on a modern, fast paced adventure that I definitely recommend.
Pure Vision is a suspenseful thriller of the highest order. Other reviews reference the Da Vinci Code and they are right to, this has many of the same elements. What sets it apart is Ms Birney's very skillful storytelling that keeps up the pace whilst also being thoughtful and insightful. And it really is action packed, with meticulous attention to detail in theme, setting and plot. The writing style is very accessible, I found, and evocative, painting pictures as though you were watching a film. Highly entertaining whilst also being informative and thought provoking this is a story that you will race through reading and then ponder over for days. Absolutely recommended!
This book was just what I was expecting and more. It reminded a little of the lost symbol by Dan brown and this book is just as good as some of the really famous novels I have read. The story line is full of very interesting twists and turns and the book leads you on an amazing adventure. I love books of this type because you never quite know what’s going to happen on the next page.
This book is one of them books that you just cannot put down I was reading this book for hours and lost track of time you just get totally involved in what is happening. The way the author has written this book is truly brilliant the level of description that is in the story really helps you make the book come alive and lets you imagine what’s happening very easily.
I would recommend this book to everyone who is interested in this type story. The book is so well written and very easy to understand I found myself just wanting to read more and more this book is by far one of the best books I have read in a long time and that is the reason i gave it 5 stars.
A grand novel in every sense of the word, Pure Vision will have you hooked from the very first page. Wonderfully well written, the story bounds along at a terrific pace, with twists and turns at every corner.
The book has been likened to a movie; the author paints a vivid and detailed picture of characters and events. Personally, it reads to me like a TV Show, in the vein of Zero Hour; the end of each chapter leaves you eagerly anticipating the next 'instalment'.
I would recommend this book to fans of so many genres. A heady combination of politics and religion, Pure Vision is a tale of mystery that will leave you questioning long established beliefs.
If you are looking for a thriller, that has political, religious and sociological implications as well as conspiracy theories, look no further. This book resembles the Da Vinci Code in many ways and has been a real pleasure to read. The author has done a marvellous job with well researched material that is well threaded throughout the book.
There is definitely a big kernel of truth that makes the story very intriguing and once you get into it, you will be part of it for quite a few days. It is as if the story comes alive.
I’d highly recommend Pure Vision: The Magdalene Revelation by Perri Birney for anyone looking for an advanced read. Birney gives a little hint early in the book with the line ‘I find it’s easier to tell the truth when you disguise it as fiction.’ As soon as I read that line, I realized that this wasn’t just another fiction novel. The story discusses current and past historical events, religion and politics but through a fiction story. Readers should focus on reading between the lines of the story as this novel is packed with multiple layers which is why I recommend it for those who are looking for a sophisticated book. Birney focuses on providing a solution for everything that is occurring in Israel and Palestine. If you’re looking for a basic fun read, Pure Vision is packed with suspense and action to keep you on your toes throughout. You won’t be able to stop turning the page. Each character has a purpose and a distinct personality. They seem very realistic. Also, the story style reminds me of Dan Brown, one of my favourite authors. If you like The DaVinci Code, you’ll LOVE this!
