That was bizarre. I bought "Prodigy" (1988) by Michael Stewart, on the basis of enjoying "Monkey Shines" (1983). It was basically the same book! The characters and setting were different, but the central concept and the plot were pretty much identical. Some scenes and dialogue were copied pretty much verbatim. Weird, and I felt cheated. Maybe the author decided to revisit it... Particularly strange because Monkey Shines was adapted into a film, so it wasn't particularly overlooked at the time. Both books were good, in isolation, but I only needed to read one of them 🙂. Four stars - because the story was still good, but there should be some sort of warning in the book description.
A brilliant story. It definitely makes you think!!! I first read this about twenty-five years ago and I enjoyed it then. Managed to track it down and so glad I read it again.
