I really loved this book! I loved the characters, and the storyline!! I loved the flow of it as well, until Chapter 48 and then it was a bit confusing as a random person showed up with their own chapter. But all in all I Loved it!!!
I really enjoyed how Ryder and Valentine met, their backstories, which they are both fresh out of hard relationships.
Val's come back home to work at the diner, while Ryder has come to Lakewood to work with his brother and is trying to find balance with that and his daughter Minnie.
He meets Valentine, and even though they both think it's just a fling, their hearts know better.
In comes trouble with a capital T, and Ryder goes off, and not thinking about asking Val about what happened. OH I HATED HIM SO MUCH AT THAT POINT!!! Ryder that is!
Val did get on my nerves a bit cause she kept comparing Ryder to Conrad, and she couldn't see that she was doing it. I wanted to shake her and scream at her that Ryder was NOTHING like him!
Can Ryder and Valentine make it work?
How does Minnie play into their relationship?
Can Val see the light in the end to make things work with Ryder and realise that Ryder is NOTHING like Conrad!?
Some of my fave quotes from the book
1. I rolled my eyes at her. " I am not waiting for him to show up." I completely was. - Val was so waiting for Ryder to show up again at the diner.
2. I told him I wanted him to mow the lawn shirtless. I told him that. I spoke those words out loud with my mouth. - I wanted to see him shirtless while mowing the lawn too!
3. I'm standing outside the door with a black, lacy, strapless bra on, telling Ryder that I'm ready to go out on a date. - ROFL!! I died laughing cause Valentine had no clue she was like that.

Both of them are in Lakeview to transition into their next place, both are hurt from past relationships, both just want a fling, or so they say. Amelia has done an amazing job with this story, from those silly mistakes we all make in jobs and relationships, she has made them flow perfectly in this story that will warm your heart.

Didn't like it
Reviewed in Australia on 18 September 2017
I really liked this story and couldn't put it down but I was really disappointed by the end. I also thought that perhaps she talked about her ex too much. We know he was a duchebag but everything was compared to him and it did get a little tiresome. But I did like it and the characters were great too.

What happened towards the end?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 December 2018Verified Purchase
Getting towards the end of the story, chapter 48 the POV was by 2 totally different people nothing to do with this book. Chapter 49 went back to POV of Ryder. Epilogue was about the people in chapter 48 – totally not what an epilogue should be, an epilogue should be a summary/conclusion to what has been read. The Valentine-Ryder story was totally ruined for me. Such a shame, perhaps this only happened with my copy as I cannot see mentioned in other reviews.

They split up for a few days her ex came to the cafe and started an even bigger argument where she scalded him with hot coffee. Ryan watched happiness came until she turned her anger onto him. But like all good stories he wins her back . I love these book that make you read chapter by chapter looking to see what will happen excellent read.

A really funny, steamy, summery read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 August 2017Verified Purchase
This is a funny, sugary-sweet, steamy romp of a rom-com. Ryder and Valentine are both determined they only want a summer fling but are also wildly attracted to each other. The course of hot lust struggles to run smoothly and Ryder doesn't help, in his confused state, by sometimes being a bit of an ass to Valentine. And she is so ditsy that she doesn't help the matter either.
Valentine was funny, sassy and a bit of a klutz. I didn't like how she had allowed herself to be treated in the past but hey, she's only young so I'll let that pass (and she did stand her ground at the end). Ryder has such a big chip on his shoulder it's amazing he can stand up straight and he struggles with what he truly wants out of life. There attempts at having a torrid and wild fling were both amusing and also steaming hot.
There was a lot of humour through out the story and it was nicely done, not too over the top and not too much of it. There were also some very serious parts and some extremely well written angst. I really enjoyed reading this book, it is well written, has a good plot with some nice twists and a steady pace that kept me engaged. It's quite different to the 'Kiss' series of books and I definitely loved this different style by the author.

Another Brilliant Book from Amelia Wilde. It is a great story that pulls you in and you can't put it down. The characters Ryder & Valentine were well written and had great chemistry. This is an entertaining, Romantic Must Read story to read if you have some spare time. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. Looking forward to reading more from Amelia Wilde
