I could not put this book down! I loved the characters, the sense of place, the outrageously impossible premise and the series of events that unfolded as I took rather large size bites out of this enormously long book. Pages literally flew by- thank goodness for Kindle or I would have had carpel tunnel syndrome by the end.
This is a tale that has so many enticing aspects: history, romance, adventure, a little bit of violence and a lot of sex. [Having also seen Series 1 of the excellent tv series, I now understand what they mean by it being a bodess ripper]. I don't normally read books like this, but a friend told me about them and I was intrigued by the time travel aspect. And then, like the proverbial first drag on a ciggie, or puff on a joint or sip of some whiskey, I was addicted. I even found myself researching the times and the Jacobite uprising and the clans. I can see why there are clubs that swoon over Scottish history.
I also highly recommend the TV series, which is pretty faithful to the books. If you decide to take on Ms Gabaldon's Outlander series -where does she find the time to wash up or cook tea?- settle in for a long engagement. It takes true commitment, but so far well worth it.
