Product description

Our Heaven Baby is full of whimsy and wonder while taking seriously the heartbreak of miscarriage. Told from the perspective of five year old Abel, this story takes the reader from learning that Abel's mommy is going to have a baby, to learning the baby died, and then imagining what it might be like in heaven, where the baby now resides and will one day be reunited with his family. The illustrations are beautiful and the books is easy for children to understand and engage with. The author, Leah Vis, draws on the true story of her own miscarriage and gives us a window into how she and her family experienced the loss. Simply stated: I love this book. It's not only an excellent resource for helping children process loss, but it also touches the hearts of its adult readers; reminding us there is hope in the midst of great suffering and reminding us of the freedom we can experience when we view our circumstances with a child-like perspective. --Stephanie Risinger, Holistic Fertility and Wellness Podcast

Miscarriage is an incredibly difficult subject, yet OUR HEAVEN BABY not only explains that subject to children in terms that they can understand but does so with an incredibly gentle and uplifting message. Told from the perspective of big‐brother Abel, the story strikes an honest yet positive tone as the boy tells the reader about the special baby in his mommy's belly, his plans to teach his brother how to be a kid, and then, upon hearing the baby has gone to Heaven, his dreams about what it is like there. Aeron Brown's stunningly imaginative illustrations enhance Vis's text and make the reader's heart soar right along with Abel's. Readers of all ages will love the cheerful images of Heaven and the touch of humor in Brown's spreads. It is my hope that this book helps families struggling with miscarriage to find reassurance, peace, and healing. --Pam Glauber, Freelance Children's Book Editor

I don't take it lightly having a healthy pregnancy. I've seen far too many sick premie babies when working in the hospital, heard too many stories about early and late miscarriages and have known those who've experienced stillbirth. These things have happened to our fellow mankind, and I think they need to be openly talked about so we can cry with one another, carry each other and offer love and hope. I have yet to encounter a picture book that so authentically addresses saying goodbye and dealing with the loss of an expectant baby from a child's perspective. I have yet to encounter a picture book that uses both stunning pictures and accessible, written word to help our Littles understand and deal with the loss of their expectant brother and or sister—that is, until I got my hands on Leah Vis and Aeron Brown's OUR HEAVEN BABY. This book is such a gift to the world of children's literature. It's a book that needed to be written and to be handled with the greatest of care, and I can tell you a thousand times over—it has been. --Meg Raby, Bedtime Stories Forevermore

Product Description

When this brother and sister learn that the baby in mommy’s belly has died, they begin to imagine with wonder what Heaven might be like.

Five-year-old Abel and his little sister Roni find out the exciting news that they are about to have a new baby in their family. They are so excited! But soon they find out that the baby has died and is now in Heaven with Jesus. This opens up a whole new world of ideas for them as they begin to dream about what their little baby must be experiencing in Heaven.

And I giggled about how silly it would be to surprise Jesus from behind. I would grab his hands, and we would swing around and sing until we fall on the ground laughing.

I wonder if anyone ever stops smiling in Heaven. I bet they can if they want. But then they would see an angel flying, or Jesus dancing, and that smile would come right back. I think I would laugh a lot.

In Heaven, I think everyone’s hearts are bursting with happy songs like Mommy’s did when the baby was in her tummy.

Our Heaven Baby embraces the joy of pregnancy, gently portrays miscarriage, and imagines the wonders and hope of Heaven. It is beautifully illustrated with acrylic paintings by Aeron Brown.

Hope is powerful, and Heaven is the greatest hope we have.
Our Heaven Baby is a story that gently talks about miscarriage while also embracing the hope and wonder of Heaven from the perspective of a child.

Children need hope. We all need hope!
Miscarriage is extremely heartbreaking for parents, but children often don’t experience it with the same intensity. A mother and father begin bonding with the baby immediately, but pregnancy is a very abstract concept for children to grasp. Even as adults we remain amazed at the miracle of pregnancy. So when a baby dies in miscarriage, we can tell our kids what happened. And then it is an amazing opportunity to dream with them about Heaven. Start imagining, and let the hope trickle in over your family.

Like the work of Todd Burpo (Heaven is For Real and Heaven is For Real for Kids), Lisa T. Bergren (God Gave us Heaven), Randy Alcorn (Heaven), Patrice Karst (The Invisible String), and Sarah Philpott (Loved Baby: 31 Devotions Helping You Grieve and Cherish Your Child after Pregnancy Loss), Our Heaven Baby will help you and your family turn your thoughts toward the amazing realities or child-like imaginations of Heaven. If you are looking for miscarriage books for kids, this book will be an encouraging gift or addition to your cherished family library.
