Jason escapes into the magic of a Broadway play every weekend. Musicals always have a happy ending and for a few hours he can believe there’s a happy ending waiting for him, too. When the tall drink of water who works on the top floor of Jason’s building, wants to take him on a date, Jason is surprised. After all, Jason is awkward and skinny, and sees himself as a boring accountant, while Paul is tall, dark, and incredibly hot.

Despite Jason’s reservations, Paul and Jason start dating and attending the shows Jason adores. But if Paul likes musicals as much as Jason, why does he always doze off? Is Paul leading a double life? Does he have a wife tucked away somewhere?

Jason knows Paul is hiding something and when the secrets come out, Jason finds his fantasy comes to life, right there on the stage.

HASH(0xba455228) out of 5 stars Cute M/M romance novella 10 October 2015
By V. Rundell of V's Reads - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Jason is a non-descript accountant working in a cube in NYC. Nothing special really, though, when he was disowned by his family after high school for coming out, he simply worked hard to educate himself and afford the small studio he now rents. He has recently noticed the growing attention he receives at the elevator bank by a gorgeous man in tailored suits. Paul, as he learns, works on the top floor of the high rise--for a marketing agency. Jason knows it's too much to hope that his admiration is reciprocated. Likely that Paul would despise him, or worse: use him.

So, Jason decides to walk the three flights to his office everyday instead of bumping into Paul. And that's when Paul gets creative!

This is a quick read with a cute romance. Jason is easily overwhelmed by attention, as attention has always meant trouble in his experience. Thing is, Paul is really persistent. He tracks Jason down, and fully demonstrates his earnest interest. This could have come off creepy, but it didn't. They begin to build a rapport over work lunches and Broadway shows. And sexytimes...

Paul's hiding a secret about himself that is beginning to wear on Jason. They can never go to Paul's place, and he isn't allowed to meet his family, and Jason suspects Paul's married and he's just a "closet bit on the side"...which is unappealing, but also not problematic enough for Jason to flee. He's been affection-starved for too long, and vulnerable. Still, when Jason's offended there ain't nothing like his pullback.

I was glad this turned out positively. And, it was a sweet resolution. Especially as I got my GREASE fix handled. Yep, expect LaRPing, in the Broadway sense.

You’re the one that I want. Oo Oo Oo honey. Warning: You must love Grease to continue. The One That I Want is a short story written by R.J. Jones that combines my love of m/m with my love of musicals.

Jason is a lowly accountant who moved to the city after his parents threw him out of their house for being gay. He’s a loner but loves his musicals. Every Saturday night he ventures to Broadway and at work he keeps up to date with a copy of Encore magazine.

Paul works on the top floor for a national renown marketing firm. He’s had a crush on Jason for months but doesn’t know how to confront him. Men in his past have only wanted things from him because of his money and prestige. Paul wants love and he wants it from Jason.

When Jason notices Paul paying special attention to him he freaks out. Jason starts to take the stairs in the mornings to avoid Paul until Paul corners him in the stairwell. Paul, not knowing how to react, runs.

On Saturday Paul runs into Jason at a showing of Grease and invites Jason to come sit by him in the good seats. Jason notices that not too far into the second act Paul falls asleep. As their relationship blossoms Paul constantly falls asleep quickly into the musicals. Begging the question, why?

This short story is full of humor, fun, and pain over Jason’s past. I had the best time reading The One That I Want. I sang the song every chance I got and relished in the greatness that is Grease. I know I shed a few tears in both laughter and sadness.

If you’re looking for a quick, sexy read then this is the story for you. You won’t be disappointed, but as for my warning earlier, you must love Grease!

R.J. Jones has written a toe tapping, head swinging little romance in The One That I Want. At 41 pages, its a quick and happy musical that exists in a Kindle instead of on stage. You can almost hear the singing and dancing as the pages go by and Jason and Paul resolve their miscommunications and work through their issues to become the couple you know they are meant to be.

The story is light-hearted, pretty much angst free and like the kiss that seals the romance and their love, this story rolls out happily, quickly and in a manner that will remind you of the best of the old romantic comedy musical. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself humming along by the end of the story. Luckily, this is to be followed by another short story, Hopelessly Devoted (The One That I Want, #2). Read them together for a throughly delightful afternoon!

The One That I Want & Hopelessly Devoted To You by RJ Jones is a series that I read and read and then read again. Yes, it is one of those things which automatically become a favorite read, especially since singing in my mind are two of favorite songs from a favorite play made into a movie starring a favorite actor and a fantastic Aussie actress/singer. Grease is one of my go-to movies when I just want to relax and enjoy.

This is the story of Jason who sought to escape real life in musicals. He meets a gorgeous man in an elevator and strike a relationship that first began in friendship but soon morphed into a love that I can honestly call: morantic.

Yes, morantic. I don't think I have used that word for some time now. Morantic, for those not familiar with my usage, is a local slang for cheesy-romantic-make-your-heart-throb-and-giggle-through read. These two books are truly entertaining that can make your eyes roll at the silliness and make one go awww at the romance unfolding.

Grinning silly through this back to back read, Jason and Paul's journey from the elevator to the altar is truly fairytale-like that it leaves one with that silly smile and aching heart of what ifs.

I wish these two were not short and light reads for the highest I give these reads are a 4. In my heart, these are worthy of 5 stars, especially if you are seeking love, laughter and romantic dreaming written by an author who knows just what buttons to push.

Jason always considered himself boring, regular looking, skinny, not worth of a second glance… or so he thought…

When he find himself accosted by the tall, gorgeous guy on his work’s place elevator, he thought that it must be a mistake or the guy felt sorry for him.

Meeting Paul where he least expected – on a Broadway play – makes him decide to give Paul a chance… after all, he had nothing to lose besides his heart!

It’s so cute to see how far Paul will go to charm Jason, and woo him… He’ll even look like a fool, since it’ll bring a smile to Jason’s face.

But Paul is not being totally truthful to Jason, and when his secret comes forward, he’ll have to prove he’s still trustworthy and that there was a real reason for it.

This is a really sweet book, and even being a short one, was a delightful read…
