Brilliantly written with a subject matter i didn't know too much about the statistics are scary. Maribel is such a lovely soul.
4.5 stars, rounded up to 5Reviewed in Germany on 3 April 2021
One Shot at Love is a sweet, slow burn romance and a passionate statement for gun control, dealing with tragedy and unspeakable loss, mourning and overcoming grief, reconciliation and compromise. A major part of the witty writing consists in spirited dialogue. For balance, I would have preferred that to be interspersed with a few more passages of descriptive narrative. In all, though, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and can definitely recommend it.
The old one!
Wonderful and UpliftingReviewed in the United States on 8 August 2020
With every new book by this author, I always think, "this is the best one yet"! Well darn it, Annette Mori, you've done it again!!! This is in my opinion, your very best one yet. Blair and Maribel were on opposite sides of gun control. Imagine what our world would be like if we could just talk realistically about our differences and what common ground we might share. The words in these pages touched my heart as well as some of my opinions. Such a controversial subject was handled with great care and finesse. Both sides were represented quite remarkably well and without any guilt for which "side" one was on. I do have a warning though that what you thought you believed---may not be what you still believe after you finish reading this one!!!! This is quite a sweet love story and there is some cuteness thrown in with all the serious stuff. This is going directly onto my list of one of best books of the year. Please, read this and savor every word because it will make your heart happy and give us hope for the future of gun control. Oh, yes, I absolutely adored Lucritia and even catching up with a few characters from another authors books. So very unique. Is it wrong of me to want to know more about these ladies? This book made quite an impact on me-----thank you so much, Annette, for sharing your words!

Entertaining and Inspiring!Reviewed in the United States on 14 August 2020
One Shot at Love by Annette Mori is an entertaining romance with a bit of action and a message about not only gun control but also the need to listen to others’ viewpoints. One thing I have learned from the Mori books I have read is that this author is not afraid to delve into controversial topics. She pulls it off with finesse and gusto that is both entertaining and enlightening. One Shot at Love is an opposites-attract romance. Maribel, a skeet shooting Olympian who has been sponsored by the NRA since she was a young champion, meets Blair, a nonprofit director who has recently lost her little sister to gun violence. Maribel is generous and kindhearted. Blair is a bit volatile and passionate about her anti-gun beliefs for obvious reasons. I liked how they both opened the eyes of the other to a reality different than their own. I enjoyed the secondary characters, especially Lucritia, who is an eight-year-old force of nature. I thought the gun control rally speeches were fantastic. I loved that Emma Bronson Blake made an appearance at the rally. She is a favorite of mine. Even though this book highlights a serious issue, there are lots of humorous moments, and I found the book hopeful and inspiring.
Opposites attract and love brings a new shared heartReviewed in the United States on 4 August 2020
My heart gasped, cried and clenched many times through this story. One again Annette Mori gave us a hot topic that is hard to bring listening heart together on. The characters are strong women whose values appear to be far from sharing. Tragedy brings them together Blair gets the call no one should get, her 7 year old sister is killed by a school shooter. Maribel is a Gold Medal skeet shooter whose life is full of guns. The journey they take to hearing and listening to each other's life experiences helps them both see a different world. The twists in lives we get to see made me examine my heart much. We each have a life experience and when love comes it can truely be that one shot so you reexamine everything for a new life. We meet Lucritia who stole my heart with her old soul and innocence that survived much in her few years. It is such a beautiful story of what can truely happen when we recognize our pain and hear each other's stories in love. I loved the book and it's tender way of helping us see the many Grey's that is our life. Great characters who stole my heart and gripping real life action that is too difficult to not wish we were better. The rally for gun control laws spoke great truths I dream we hear and live. Magical story with so many little details you will just love.
