4.0 out of 5 stars One To Leave is a great compliment to the One To Hold series. 27 January 2015
By Black Heart Ali - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Stuart. I am #TeamStuart. This man, my goodness.

Stuart is a man who knows exactly who he is and what he wants. Unfortunately, his body won't allow him to be and do what he wants. A military injury has his world in a tailspin and he's fighting his way to make it right. When he does get his mind and body right, he's gone. Back to the world he knows. The world of being a Marine, in the thick of the fighting. Earning his honor bound place in the world. It's who he is, all he's ever wanted.

Until Mariska. The free spirit young woman who feels an immediate connection with this rough and tumble man and follows him to the middle of nowhere on a whim.

These two could not be more different. Stuart is hard, controlling, demanding. Especially in the bedroom (which I LOVED). Mariska is a bit hippie, completely caring and easy going. Together they balance each other so well. Stuart prompts her to attempt some control over parts of her life and take some big risks in others while she pushes him to look beyond his life long plan, to see that there is more to life then being a soldier.

But giving up your hopes and dreams isn't easy. For Stuart it is damn near impossible and it leaves Mariska with few options.

I really appreciated the hard lines that Louise wrote into this story. Mariska is young but knows Stuart is her future and she was willing to make some tricky decisions in the attempt to make him see it. She wasn't a simpering heroine clinging to an impossible situation. Stuart has his share as well. He really fights his feelings for Mariska, which is sad, but so very real.

One To Leave is a great compliment to the One To Hold series. Probably my favorite of them all.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 - "All of this... it's a lot to take in." Stars! 29 December 2014

4 - "All of this... it's a lot to take in." Stars!

I love this series, and I love Tia Louise's writing of it. Each and every character brings a little something to the mix that the others do not have and as a whole, you have a wonderfully entertaining and eclectic mix of people, all of which you fall a little in love with as their stories are told, and the series as a whole progresses.

"So much has happened, and not enough."

It is pretty safe to say I will never get bored of reading each of the episodes in the lives of Derek, Patrick, Melissa, Elaine, as well as Kenny and Slayde and now Stuart and Mariska that Tia has given her readers, and One to Leave is no exception. Although not my favorite book, I still really enjoyed it.

"When I go, I go alone."

Main reason being for me is that, I have waited an awfully long time to meet and get to know the elusive Stuart Knight, and although this is his and Mariska's story an awful lot of other stories are also being played out around theirs in this book. Not a bad thing and it offers great development to the series as a whole. But I still don't feel I know Stuart as well as I want too, and the lesser focus on him in this book for the group as a whole I think bears a little responsibility for that. Although Knowing the imagination of Ms. Louise, I am hoping against hope that this is because there will be another book involving this couple more 'intimately' in the future!

As I said, I still love this series. Tia nailed the banter between Derek, Patrick and Stuart, and it was great to see a little more of the dynamic between the Knight brothers as well as the group as a whole with the inclusion of Kenny, Slayde and Mariska.

"I want to know you better. That's all."

Stuart Knight, much like Derek Alexander is a man of many facets, he is definitely a guy who likes to be in charge, and I liked the mix of his dominance with Mariska's slightly freer spirit. She didn't shy away from standing up to him, or giving him a run for his money though and I really liked that. The inclusion of Nikki into this story pissed me off a bit, but again I expect this is something to do with the author's 'bigger picture' of which her readers quite rightly aren't fully privy to as yet!

I do hope that we get to see more of this couple in more closer conditions in a future book from the series. I also have to give Tia the medal for a longest epilogue I have read in a book so far, she could have almost marketed it as a novella if she had been of a mind to!

"Make a wish." ... "Make it for me."

My wish, has pretty much been granted, One to Save is due in the spring, I get more Derek and Melissa, and I just know I am going to be dragged through the emotional wringer with this one. My second wish, because I am a greedy reader, more Stuart Knight as well, he is a guy whose surface has barely been scratched, and I want to go deep... b***s deep with this guy.

5.0 out of 5 stars One To Leave = Stuart and Mariska = hot, hot, hot!!! 29 December 2014
By JG ~ Jezabell Girl & Friends - Published on

It's book 5 and this series continues to go from strength to strength. After loving Kenny and Slayde's story so much I was worried that Stuart and Mariska's story may pale into insignificance but I needn't have worried, Stuart was ready to lift my expectations!

I swear Tia's writing gets hotter and hotter and some of the scenes *phew* were extremely spicy. I was on the fence about calling Tia an erotic romance writer before, choosing instead to think of her books as more adult romance, but One To Leave definitely takes the eroticism of her writing to another level.

So, Stuart and Mariska, well there's a partnership we were always destined to enjoy. From the teaser in One To Love, we were left questioning who this broken man is and who can possibly save him. Enter Mariska. From the brief moment they shared at the gym, Stuart and Mariska can't stop thinking about each other but their lives are heading in different directions.

Stuart is still coming to terms with his recovery and the implications of his treatment and heads to his uncle's to try to recover but Derek and Patrick are suspicious and head out after him. Derek finds Stuart in need of his support and spending the week together they try to piece Stuart's life back together again.

Mariska can 't stop thinking about Stuart and when her dreams start to become mysterious she does what she thinks has to be done and she heads in Stuart's direction.

Stuart and Mariska are immediately attracted to one another once again but they question the power in their feelings for one another. Their relationship doesn't run smoothly though as Stuart feels that he has unfinished business in the desert and pushing and pulling at Mariska's heart strings he inadvetently pushes her away, back home.

It's not long though before Stuart realises the error of his ways and decides to seek out his one true love, Mariska.

This is a special story and one that certainly had its ups and downs. I especially love the way these two characters souls called out to each other.

"I saw you and my soul came to life inside me." ~Mariska

The bond shared between Stuart and Mariska goes so deep that their dreams are intertwined and who is about to refuse them their HEA.

5.0 out of 5 stars A blazing hot Big Sky romance that inflames the heart! 16 February 2016
By Kim R. - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
ONE TO LEAVE (One To Hold, book 5) Blew. Me. Away. In all honesty, every new book I read by the marvelously talented Tia Louise I proclaim my favorite, and this one is no exception! There is just so much blistering passion, breathtaking romance, turmoil and angst in Stuart and Mariska's story. And OMG...the feels! The feels were so intense!! It was like a nonstop adrenaline rush of pure, pulsing emotion.

Set primarily against the spectacular Sky Country backdrop, it features embittered ex-Marine Stuart Knight who wants to be left alone to lick his wounds and kick a nasty addiction at his uncle's rustic cabin, but a chance encounter with the beautiful, free-spirited Mariska Heron is about to turn his world asunder!! She penetrates his heart of darkness, heals him from within, and shines a beautiful ray of light into his desolate soul. Gives him a flicker of hope for a new beginning...and stirs his every possessive, protective, primal instinct.

"My need to protect her was overwhelming. I’d never felt anything like it. She was sunshine and warmth and fire under my skin."

I was immediately sucked into this story. The prologue was riveting and heartbreaking and totally gutted me. Shed light on Stuart's true heroism. And brilliantly set the stage for what was to come! And then in the opening chapters when we saw the full extent of the physical agony Stuart was in as he tried to detox from his painful addiction, vowing to suffer in silence and not burden his friends and loved ones, it made me ache gutturally for him. He is truly a lone wolf who puts others before himself.

ONE TO LEAVE is an ultra steamy read with searing emotion, and in my opinion there is nothing hotter than a taciturn Alpha male who meets his match in the form of a sweet and feisty heroine who refuses to back down, chips away at his ironclad barriers, and eventually forces him out of his shell! And I never could resist a rollicking Western tale that unfolds in the wild plains of Montana!

Stuart is so deliciously dark and tormented and ruggedly alpha male. A strong, silent loner who harbors battle scars from his time in the military, he isolated himself from his loved ones so he could be left in peace to sulk and brood and try to pick up the tattered remnants of his life. Then, against all odds, fate and destiny collide in the form of one remarkable, resilient, impossibly stubborn woman! Mariska is his beautiful sunset gypsy, the balm to his tortured soul.

“You loved me when I wasn’t strong enough to love myself, let alone you."

Granted, Stuart is not an easy man to love...he's brusque, unyielding, commanding, fiercely dominant and emotionally unavailable. And dang it...he always has one foot out the door! But he is also strong and sexy and gruffly tender... This is a man who is all about Honor. Sacrifice. Serving and Protecting. A true patriot at heart, he struggles valiantly to banish his inner demons, regain his lost pride and find something to fight for again. Can gentle-hearted, flamboyant Mariska, who is harboring some mighty big secrets of her own, convince him to stick around long enough to fight for her...for them...for a love of a lifetime?

Ultimately, this is a beautiful, soulful, tension-fraught romance teeming with love, lust, raw emotion and unbridled passion. A book that made my chest throb with longing, stirred my senses and set my heart on fire. There are just so many nuanced, emotional layers to this romance, so much hope and heartbreak and depth of feeling, it literally rendered me speechless at times.

The romantic connection between Stuart and Mariska was just so incredibly profound, deeply spiritual and utterly Intoxicating, I could go on and on singing their praises! Fair warning: the sex is hot! Scorching, sweltering, off the charts hot. The passion was so explosive, titillating, even volatile at times, it made me melt!

"He kissed me like I was a country to be liberated, and he was the Marine for the job."

I actually fell so blissfully in love with this couple they gave fan favorites Melissa and Derek a serious run for their money! Speaking of which, it was so fun to catch up with all the recurring characters. Derek, Patrick, Melissa, Elaine, Kenny and Slayde added vibrancy, warmth, humor and emotional texture to the plot, and as always, Ms. Louise masterfully weaves all the key players into the canvas to broaden the scope and add fascinating facets and unique perspectives into this tale.

So if you have a hankering for a red-hot, Western flavored romance with a lonesome Alpha Cowboy, earthy, flamboyant, slightly kooky heroine, and a PASSIONATE, slow-burning love story that is fated in the stars, you won't want to miss this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 “captain @$$hat” Stars! 21 January 2015

Ok, so I am a little mad at myself. Mad that I haven’t stayed up to date on this series!! I have a lot of catching up to do. Oh, and by the way…I am totally in love with Stuart. Hehe :) So, I read the first book in this series many, many moons ago, and then life got in the way. Now here I am picking up the 5TH book and loving it.

“Sometimes it takes more courage to give up one dream for a new one.”

Stuart is rough and gruff at times, but yet such a caring person deep down. And, of course, HOT!! I wanted to help him, just as Mariska did. And in the same ways she did ;) Their connection touches you. It’s not sweet, and it’s not romantic, it’s just moving….ugh, I don’t think that’s the right word for it, but that will have to do!

“Coming here like this was the craziest thing I’d ever done in my entire life, and now I’d have to face the consequences.”

I love how head strong and mature Mariska is. She knew what had to be done and she stuck with it, even when she just wanted to cave in to him. And Stuart, he knew in his heart what the right answer was, but you know how guys are….stubborn!!

“When was the last time I’d felt this way? ***, for that matter, had I ever felt this way?”

So as you can see, this story is about stubborn versus stubborn!! And if there isn’t enough going on with those two, you still get a lot about the rest of the crew. Which brings me back to the fact that I must get to reading the previous books in the series. I did get lost a few times during One To Leave, and REALLY wanted to know how a few things happened.

This story was definitely a reminder to me that I thoroughly enjoy this author’s writing style. Sexy cowboys, independent women, and a whole lot of sweet and steamy scenes is my kind of story. I recommend the series to all…but don’t be an idiot like me and read them out of order ;)
