Product Description

“My one fear is now my reality.”

He didn’t offer his name when he fulfilled his need to include me as a player in his game.
I’m number thirteen. Just a number given to the bitches who wronged him.
I was blindsided. Stolen from my life. In his devilled eyes, I have a debt to pay…he wants my final breath to see us even.

“I know who you are Morgan Banks, the question is, who am I? Five games will set you free when you can tell me who I’d be.”- The Wolf.

Am I strong enough to take on the Wolf?

You will read the first page and be just as entrapped to find out what happens to Morgan and Reid as they face what to anyone else would be a traumatic event. But to come across two pathetic Detectives who have no idea how to read a victim and continue to treat Reid as a Suspect in the disappearance of his dancer wife. A cliffhanger,,, just waiting for a resolution... will it come...

Well, Ms Brooks it's official... When you pick up one of your books you're never quite prepared for what you're going to find on those pages, and One Fear provides you with nothing else.

It's quite literally frightening. It was intense, terrifying and confusing all in the same time.

I loved the real emotion between the husband and wife. It wasn't the usual lovey-dovey all is happy in the marriage. It was real. Arguing over being late for dinner and who'd pick the kids up from afternoon care. It was almost like being a fly on the wall as they battled the every day issues.

It was the psychological thriller aspect of this book that left me staring at the walls wondering:
a - what the hell did I just read
b - when is Belle releasing book 2 because surely she can't leave it like that for long
c - what the hell did I just read
d - who is the puppet master pulling the strings and playing the game
e - is she going to survive
f - is the husband going to get arrested as he loses his s**t
and g - what the hell did I just read

This book was real and intense and completely draws you in.

It's just not the type of book I usually read and enjoy, but I will definitely be getting book 2 to find out 'who dunnit!'

I went into One Fear essentially blind. I'd read some of Belle Brooks' work before and I liked what I read, so I grabbed up this book eagerly while having virtually no idea what I was getting myself into. I knew it was the first book in a series, and that it was supposed to be darker than what she'd written before, but beyond that, nada.

What I found was the take of Morgan. Mother, wife, relatively newly back into the workforce. Accompanying that upheaval in her professional life is an equal yet opposite upending of her personal life. Established roles and expectations in her marriage have been turned on their ear, and things within her marriage are unsettled at best. So much so that her and her husband Reid didn't even exchange a kiss goodbye on the day she went to work and didn't make it home.

A richly dark and intensely compelling read, this first entry in The Game of Life series follows not only Morgan as her day quickly escalates from bad to horrifyingly worse, but alternates that with glimpses of her husband who, for being so much better off than she, still finds himself making his way through one of the worst days of his life.

With recriminations and second guessing, confusion, doubt and one seriously deranged individual, this book delves deeply into that emotion encapsulated in the title ... fear.

For whatever it might say about me, I kind of loved it.

After being away from work for so long and returning sometimes Morgan often gets caught up at work. Wanting her marriage to return to the way it was Morgan decided to make a conscious effort, to get home early. Reid misses what he had with Morgan and some doubt comes in as to whether she may be having an affair.
Everything changes in the blink of an eye, on the way home from work with getting a flat tire, Morgan wakes up to being bound in the boot of a car, the voice of the man sounds familiar, but she can’t be sure. All Morgan knows is he calls her Red and himself the Wolf, he has left her with a back pack containing items that she will need and that there are five tasks. After thinking she may be smart enough to outsmart the Wolf he finds her and tells her to run.
Reid at first is angry that Morgan again hasn’t made it home for dinner, he even begins to wonder if she may be somewhere else, as time goes on, he tries calling her mobile with no answer so calls the cops, when they seem to do nothing he decides to look for her car. Finding the car, and not long after the police turn up. Suddenly Reid finds himself in the police station being questioned while his wife is missing.
Ends in a cliff hanger – can’t wait to see what happens with Red and the Wolf.

This is certainly not a book I would pick and read I will be honest but when it comes to Belle Brooke's I knew I had to give it a go and I am so glad I have been pulled out of my comfort zone because holy balls this was quite a ride and I know it's not the end which is exciting.

All I can say without giving anything is away throughout this novella the adrenaline was pumping and really didn't know what was going to happen next.

This novella is full of games, dark corners and a heart broken husband whose despair you could feel pumping through the pages. It has you guessing and thinking really hard what could possibly happen and who is he.
Even though I don’t read books like this I am hanging for the next installment, can’t wait and I am glad this is a novella as it gives you time to take it in and get you ready for the next episode.

I love an author who isn’t afraid to step out and write something different and this is so different to Belle’s other books and I love that.
