Product description

Product Description

"ANONYMOUS" is a one-act play in which two gay men who have both lost long-time lovers in different ways arrive at mutual attraction in the waiting room of an AIDS clinic. Both have returned for their respective HIV-antibody tests, neither one thinking that he would encounter "someone special" in the midst of such overwhelming personal anxiety and stress.

“ANONYMOUS” had its East-Coast premiere during the Playwright’s Showcase at Albany Civic Theater in New York and made its West-Coast debut as the inaugural production for The Alchemy Project at The Jon Sims Center for the Performing Arts in California. “ANONYMOUS” received an Emerging Playwrights Award from Artists Alliance Against AIDS in San Francisco and an early draft was published in "Art & Understanding Magazine."

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better the second time around 30 January 2014

I read this when Mr. Potter first wrote it years ago. I know it moved me then. How do I know? I wrote about this play at length in my college journal. And now, 20 years later, it still moves me. I don't know if folks who did not experience the terror of AIDS will get it, but if there is any way that they will it is through this story. Those days seem so distant now, but a story like this pulls you right back in to that time and place. And isn't that what good writing is supposed to do? Mr. Potter is more than a good writer, he is a true writer.

ANONYMOUS is a sharply written play with a fresh look at the modern relationship. I especially enjoyed the use of numbers as names -- underscoring the starkness of not only the reality of anonymity during STD testing situations but, in a broader sense, the anonymity of human relations in a post-Facebook world. Potter's witty and gritty dialogue brings the reader/viewer right to the side of these characters, longing for life and love right along with them. You won't be disappointed.

Michael Allan Potter has created several works of art that have moved me over the years, and Anonymous is no exception. Truly. His writing is sobering, down to earth, and cinematic, always. Definitely an artist, creator, writer, and speaker to get to know.
