Product Description

As we all know love has a habit of striking at the most inopportune moments and that sometimes fairy tales happen when we least expect them.

Giles Trevallier, 5th Earl of Winchester – tired, cold and very wet – was lamenting his decision to try to outride the storm. Escaping from the hustle of the city, Giles was looking forward to a few months of peace and quiet, while he managed his vast country estate. Now all he wanted to do was to get home, change into dry clothes and sit in front of a roaring fire with a hot meal and a large tumbler of whisky.
Fate, however, had other ideas and was about to intervene in the guise of a bedraggled female, who literally dropped at the Earl’s feet, soaked to the skin and more dead than alive; her sudden appearance turning his neat, orderly and, to be honest, rather boring existence completely upside down.
Waking, briefly, in an unfamiliar room and in the arms of a very tall and dangerously handsome stranger no less, the young woman has no memory of who she is or how she came to be there. Under the tender care of the Earl’s household, she slowly starts to recover, eventually recalling that her name is Willow, although everything else continues to elude her.
Following discreet enquiries into his unexpected guest – whose face haunts his every waking moment, Giles is shocked to discover that she is rumoured to be responsible for a fire that destroyed her family home and that her father’s body is presumed to be one of those recovered from the ashes. Suddenly this most respectable Earl is faced with the possibility that he is harbouring a criminal.
While trying to unravel the mystery surrounding her, Giles realises that he is falling hopelessly in love with Willow, who unbeknownst to him is fighting similar emotions. And as with anything involving the heart, a thoughtless word or gesture has a tendency to thwart even Fate’s best-laid plans.
Have Willow and Giles any chance of a happy ever after or will all manner of obstacles, such as misunderstandings, whispers of scandal, secret documents and foreign agents force them apart?

This is my first experience of a Rosie Chapel novel, and I have to say I enjoyed the novel way of narrating the story that Rosie has. She seems to flow seamlessly from one characters point of view to the next without much confusion.
Instantly readers are enamoured with Giles and Billie, you'll laugh at their antics and groan with their faults. There is plenty of mystery to keep the reader hooked to the end. There is a slight feeling of a rush to the conclusion, but the fairytale ending does not leave you wanting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read! 12 April 2017

The story of Giles Trevallier, 5th Earl of Winchester, and Billie Caswell (Willow), the bedraggled female, who literally falls at his feet, more dead than alive, has a fairytale quality to it that is endearing. Willow captures the Earl's heart from the moment he holds her in his arms and rocks her to sleep, and unbeknownst to him, he had the same effect on her. Giles is too busy trying to solve the mystery surrounding his unexpected guest, and to come to grips with the emotions she arouses in him to have time for little else. He is content to sit and rock her to sleep, night after night, if that's what it takes to get her to open up to him.
Willow was not able to open up to the Earl because the only memory she has is her name, nothing more. Hell she wasn't even sure it was her name. So how could she remain in the Earl's arms when she didn't even know who she was? She felt like such a fraud, but being held in his arms feels so good.
Filled with discreet kisses, great period dialogues, authentic backdrop, and suspenseful interludes, the author takes the reader on a journey of intrigue and unexpected romance, to a happily ever after that is well worth the wait. Great read!

I don't understand why authors want to portray their heroine as almost being a child. Being petite is one thing, but writing about the hero rocking the heroine in his arms to comfort her and sitting her on his knee just creeps me out. A heroine can come across as sweet and innocent without acting like a ten year old.

LOVED THIS BOOK!! If you want a fun Regency romance, check this one out! I loved the epilogue! It really brought everything together beautifully! I will certainly be reading more from Rosie. I can't wait for her next book!
5.0 out of 5 stars ...and they lived happily ever after 26 April 2017

Being rescued by a prince or in this case an earl is the stuff most every girl's dreams are made of. And that's exactly what happened to Willow aka Billie Caswell, the girl rescued by Giles, the 5th Earl of Winchester. (You have to read the book to know why she has two names :) The only thing to spoil their meeting is that Willow doesn't have any memory of who she is or how she got there.

Giles and Willow captured me from the moment they met. I was so caught up in what was going on between them. The progression of their relationship was natural and had lovely moments such as when he rocks her to sleep each night. How can anyone resist a man who takes care of them like that? I fell for Giles in a huge way!

Although Willow comes to care for Giles in a big way, because of the amnesia, she has a hard time accepting that she cares for him and that it's ok to do so. I felt so badly for her as she struggled to deal with her feelings for him while wondering who she was. I can't even imagine going through what she did.

If you want to know their story, you need to one-click. If you like regency romance or you're looking to try a new genre, Once Upon an Earl is a great book to start with. Ms. Chapel does a fantastic job creating an authentic tale in relation to speech, dress, décor, etc. In addition, she layers it with all the feels needed to make it a 5 star read.

One of my favorite parts of the story is the fact that the passion between the two is a barely underbanked current running throughout the story until their marriage in the epilogue. I have no issue with books that are much more blatant, but this fit the story and the couple perfectly.

This is my first Rosie Chapel book and I've already one-clicked 4 more. I'm so excited to find this author. I'll be watching for more of her work in the future. Congratulations on a wonderful book, Ms. Chapel!
