A box of tissues is almost mandatory accompaniment for this wonderful tender Christmas love story. Atticus Bowen, the hero of the story—and what a true gentleman hero he is—is just about as close to the man of my dreams as a hero could get. He is warm, kind, considerate and caring and, yes, he’s also driven to succeed, but not at the cost of Rachel’s happiness. She’s wrapped herself up tightly in her numbers and her accountancy skills, certain that if she rejects even the notion of falling in love and instead focuses on career and monetary success then she’ll have achieved her goals. I adored the way that Atticus proved the value of love to her.
This story is about more than just the love that blossoms between Rachel and
Atticus. It’s also about the love of a mother for her daughter and a godmother for her goddaughter based on that mother’s love. Centred in the magical Montana town of Marietta the story also shows the love a community can offer as they bring a newcomer into the fold. Setting this story in a bookshop at Christmas was just the icing on the cake for me. As Christmas love stories go, this one is just about perfect.
