About the Author

Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone is avideo game developer, video game designer, artist, composer, and musician best known for being the sole creator and programmer behind the smash hit Stardew Valley. He is hard at work on his next video game, Haunted Chocolatier.

Born and raised in Canton, Ohio, Ryan Novak has been a gamer almost since he learned to walk, having cut his teeth on an Atari 2600 joystick. His writing credits include the Stardew Valley Guidebook and the Hollow Knight Wanderer's Journal; he has also contributed to many other video game-related books as an editor, producer, or whatever the situation calls for. He still lives in northeast Ohio with his partner, Kari Fry, along with several dozen plush cats (which are far easier and cheaper to take care of than real cats).

    Eric Barone, known by his alias ConcernedApe, is an innovative American video game developer and musician, celebrated for creating the indie sensation "Stardew Valley." Born in Los Angeles in 1987 and raised in Auburn, Washington, Eric's childhood fascination with the Harvest Moon series sparked a lifelong passion for game development.

    Graduating in 2011 with a computer science degree from the University of Washington Tacoma, Eric embarked on his game development journey to enhance his programming skills. His dedication culminated in the creation of "Stardew Valley" (2016), a game that he single-handedly developed over four years, handling all aspects from programming to music.

    With over 20 million copies sold, "Stardew Valley" not only showcases Eric's multifaceted talent but also his commitment to independent game development. His work earned him a spot in Forbes' "30 Under 30: Games" in 2017.

    Continuing to innovate, Eric announced several new projects, including "Haunted Chocolatier," and has ventured into music, collaborating on the "Prescription for Sleep" album series.

I was already expecting this cookbook to be amazing because I know how much hard work and love concerned ape puts into this game but I was absolutely blown away! It exceeded my expectations as soon as I opened the book. Without spoiling too much, this cookbook has adorable art, features drawings and notes from the in-game characters, and amazing details and nods to the game within it. As someone who is enrolled in culinary with 600 hours on Stardew Valley, I am so excited to get cooking! Cooking and gaming has always meant a lot to me, so this book is and will be very special to me! Super cute and definitely worth it! :)

Pros: Very colorful and charming illustrations. The book's integrity as a hard cover book is quality. The writing is also charming and well done.

Cons: Not much to speak of. I suppose some of the recipes are a tad advanced but there's a fair share of easy to do ones as well.

Overall an amazing piece of literary work, even as a recipe book.

Everything about this book screams cozy, the art, the food, the layout, all perfect. All dishes are pescatarian friendly, many or vegetarian and vegan friendly too, though either very few modifications can be changed to accommodate chicken, beef or other meats. This is a cookbook done right.
