I host a game night at my house regularly, and I'm always on the lookout for new games. Most of the time I'm disappointed...either the game is too complicated for people to learn easily for a game night, or it's easy to learn and really boring and a let down.
This game, however, was both easy to learn (even after a few drinks) and really fun to play! If you've ever played Scattergories, it's very similar to that. It's made more fun, however, because instead of only broad categories like "city names," it includes fill in the blank sentences (my personal favorite) and funny topics for adults, like "descriptions of your period." It led to some funny stories and failed attempts at answering the questions.
The only issue with the game, and it is a small one, is that it says that it can be played with 2 people. Technically, it *can* be played with 2 people, and I have played with my husband and we still had fun and some good laughs. However, one of the aspects of the game is arguing for your answers and explaining why they should be counted. If you only have two people there really isn't a tie-breaker available, and the instructions don't say what to do in this situation. You can easily work around that, though, with the flip of a coin or something, but it's not as much fun as when you have multiple people to vote on your answers.
But even playing with just 2 people, this game is still a blast to play. I hope that they'll wind up making even more cards to go with the game. I really enjoyed it...it's the kind of game you could play all night with a group of people, or you could have a quick game of 3 rounds or so with your significant other or older teenager.
I would also suggest to new players that instead of using the included old-school timer that's provided, someone in the group sets a timer on their phone. It's really easy to lose track of whether time is up or not when you're busy trying to think of answers.
All in all a really great game, and I'm so glad I have it to add to my game-night arsenal! It will be a fun game to play more than once, even with the same people, because each time it's going to be different. Totally worth the money!
All players are given dry erase boards and markers on which to write their answers down. No worries about running out of papers/scoresheets or finding enough pens for everyone! Then each player uses the same topic card and a dice is rolled to give you a letter that all your answers must start with. Then it is up to you to come up with the most unique answers! Topics range from simple (vehicles) to more complex (words that describe a woman’s period), and also sometimes give you a sentence to fill in the blanks for (similar to Cards Against Humanity). With a 2 minute timer, it is hard to entirely fill in every answer on the spot! But that is a good thing!
My only critique would be that the game uses an hourglass type sand timer, and unless you are looking at it you don’t always know when time is up. A timer that made a sound when it is done would be easier.
Highly recommend this game though!
Must admit we do cheat a little and set an alarm on our phones for 2mins 20 seconds rather than using the 2min sand timer. Since all of us were too busy thinking up answers to watch the timer. My husband made the executive decision to increase the time 20seconds.
Highly recommend this game. It will for sure be christmas presents for a few family members and friends this year.
