Unbelievably awesome
5 out of 5 stars
Unbelievably awesome
I was originally reluctant as many said they felt sick afterwards. In all honesty, I played for about 2h my first time & felt a little car-sick, but that was it. Never happened again.Quality wise the games are awesome!Tried Jurassic Park first, it was total emersion, like you were actually part of the game.I also purchased the Oculus link cable (as I have a VR capable PC) and tried Lone Echo(Meta Quest 2 can play any Oculus VR game via the link cable provided your PC is capable of running them)Same as before, like you’re part of the game.Love how they utilise the grab functions & the headset room scaling picks up if you duck or in games like Jurassic Park & depending on how big you set your boundaries (like physically painting a line around your room) you can ‘walk about’ rooms in the game. The only downside is still the hardware limitations.Resolution per eye is 1920x1832 but in realistic graphics, looks a little blurry in some areas.I also would say it’s a pain to swap between people if you let others try.But it streams to your phone flawlessly so you can guide them from there & only need to adjust once. And the audio is surprisingly good, i was going to grab some headphones afterwards, but am happy with the stock built in speakers.Overall.A great experience that has had the creases ironed out. There is still a LOT of advancements ahead, but great place to jump in.9/10

The Quest 2 makes it easier than ever to get into VR at an attractive price. You don't need to worry about sensors, cameras, cables or dedicating a room of your house to it. What you have in the box is all you will need. You will feel like an expert in no time and it's well explained in tutorials. Even handing the system to a new user and non-gamer they will find it intuitive and able to use it quickly.

First start up is relatively simple and you will be taught as you go. Signing in with an existing Meta account of some type and logging into the Wifi takes a few minutes, then setting up the play area takes less than a minute. This means if you change locations you will only need to do a quick setup to the play area. The operating system is android based and well refined to the controls, even possible to control with your empty hands with pinch gestures. Honestly the hardest thing was learning terminology of when they mean link or AirLink, Oculus as a brand or as a platform, Quest or Rift as a product, Meta as the owner etc

The headset is an acceptible weight and the straps get the job done. It has all the sensors built in. It's possible to look at the room around you in a low resolution black and white which comes in hand to recentre yourself or assist with doing work and meeting applications. It has surprisingly good quality speakers that are directed at the user, they don't bleed much to be audible to others. Where you might find problems and may feel the need to change is to the nosebridge and the foam that presses against your face: If you shake or jolt your head you will likely hurt your nose from the hard plastic unless you're able to add space or protection. In normal use this is not a problem. The foam around the headset is likely to irritate and is difficult to clean as it is an exposed sponge. It's recommended you use the silicon sleave provided or seek a cheap third party options.

Importantly, heed the warning about sunlight. Never store the headset where it will receive sunlight on the lenses, noting that the sun moves throughout the day. The lenses will focus the sun and burn the monitors, like burning ants with a magnifying glass, and it is not reversible.

The controllers are lightweight and well laid out. There is usually enough buttons or gestures you can do to control complex games intuitively and you won't need to look down at your hands, it's all possible by feel. The large sensor rings don't get in the way for the most part, but some games requiring two hands (eg holding a sword or long gun) are likely to result in hitting the large rings together, but the controllers are robust and can take a few hits.

For gaming, the built in Quest store may not have the best price per game but you can find plenty to do with free games while waiting for sales. Where the Quest shines is when you sideload games from a computer, or use the cable or AirLink to access Steam VR. It does not take long to learn to do these things and the options and possibilities you gain expand massively to more time you put into it. Development of new VR games across the industry has plateaued with a lack of customers, but is likely to come roaring back when the PSVR2 releases soon and the interest from customers returns. Still, with access to Half-Life Alyx, Beat Saber, The Walking Dead, ports of No Man's Sky, Skyrim & Fallout, fan-made games and fan-ported titles like Doom 3 there is a lot you can do.

The newly released AirLink is a welcome addition to allow cable-free running of games. Using AirLink allows you to play a larger library of games including games that are much more demanding than the headset's built in hardware over wifi, with a noticeable but acceptable reduction in visual quality but no noticeable delay (think streaming HD video or screensharing in a zoom meeting). You will have the benefit of playing without the weight and restriction of a long heavy USB-C cable (not included in the pack). Using the cable gives the highest possible visual fidelity at the cost of weight of the cable.

Very happy, as expected.

I occasionally play computer games, predominantly flight simulators, and have always dreamed of a more immersive experience than clicking keyboard and mouse buttons to move around and scan on a single or multiple screens. I wanted a stand-alone VR gaming and educational experience I could share with my wife, friends and family, as well as link to my PC for flight Sims. The Meta Quest 2, on paper, appeared to fit the bill.

And it does! Combined with Elite battery strap and Kiwi Fit pack, it is comfortable and opens up a whole new world of entertainment and fun. I can fly a plane and it feels like the real experience. I've floated through the ISS and space-walked, soared over the Alps, dived on the Barrier Reef. I've stood in the street in Ireland, London, NZ and outside several of my childhood homes. My inner child has been excited, my adult brain captivated, amazed, challenged. I love it, and there is so much potential for future experience and education. The 256 GB version gives me the storage space to grow with the Meta Quest development

As a new reviewer I would like to compound my reviews with pros and cons. All reviews are my own and will have additional information if a product stands out.

Pros:
- Price perfectly, but on sale makes this product a steal.
- 256gb is the middle of the range but has enough storage so you can have games for different family members.
- comfort on the headset is second to none, I have owned all versions of the vivendi headset line-up and more, the quality and engineering in this design has made it possible for me to allow even the youngest family members a turn. Unbelieve the range of adjustment to make it a perfect fit on your head and in your home.
- The experience is something everyone should give a chance atleast once, nearly all of my family members would be happy to use this headset over and over again just to try all the experience the product has to offer. Guest and children alike have such a huge variety of choice, it truly feels like a huge leap in technological advancement.

Cons:
- information on the purchase page, there could definitely be alot more information provided and more examples that show the range of use for a family or individual.
- Accessories are not required but highly suggested, I didn't feel like they were over priced but having to search for basic accessories for the system for e.g. a protective travel case definitely could atleast come with a safe holder with the product. The item also gives the impression that the only option for purchasing additional item including the connection cable to attach to a computer has to be a genuine brand cable. This is not the case but even I would still recommend using higher quality accessories with the price of the item.
- Shipping, the fear of a purchase of an item at this price point being DOA (dead on arrival) seems to be justified in some cases. I will not include an opinion on the mail service but the packaging for the product directly could feel like more attention to detail and care was considered. I cannot confirm where in the process of the item to the door this issue should be addressed more heavily but I would like to bring it up for people to be aware aswell.

Overall:
The cons I have present are very much nitpicking, or information of my experience and also an understanding of what occurs in the industry aswell. This product will always be one of my highest personally rated items because an investment that brings happiness to families, friends or just yourself with so much variety and future prospects this product becomes a no brainer for those looking for the right gift or purchase when your looking for something truly special in itself.
