No good deed goes unpunished.

Riley Masters learns this the hard way when she finds a wallet and decides to do the right thing. But returning it will cost her much more than she bargains for.

Abandoned by her mother, raised by an indifferent father, Riley has accepted the fact that she would be alone always. She has no idea that a single act of kindness would propel her into a world where creatures that shouldn’t exist guard the human race from the demons that lurk in the shadows. That it will cost her the lives of those she loves while unearthing a destiny she never imagined with a man who is forbidden to love her. She finds passion, romance and the family she’d been searching for her entire life, but at what cost and what is she willing to sacrifice to find answers and happiness?

Octavian Maxwell has always known his place. He is a Caster, a Son of Judgment. His job is to protect the mortal world from the creatures plotting to destroy it. Instead, his world is shattered when a human girl walks into Final Judgment, a girl he has been searching for his entire life, a girl he is forbidden to ever touch. Being with her will break the oath he’s sworn to never love a mortal. But his heart has already found its mate and it refuses to let go.

Final Judgment… a place undetected, a gateway to evil and a legend that will undo everything anyone has ever known about our world.

Most books you read, they are predictable, you can guess the ending before you are even half way through. Not this one. Just when you think it's over, you are thrown into darkness, you have no idea what's going to happen, how, when, whom! Can not wait for the next one!

3.0 out of 5 stars good, but cannot recommend it. 4 August 2014

This is a really good book. I will say that. However, I cannot in good conscience suggest it. Why? Because in the time since its been out, the author has written numerous other books, starting another for (possibly as many as six) series'. It leads me to believe she loves to start new ones, but not finish them. That being the case, this author has lost my interest. Now, if you don't mind getting a book that is good, but an incomplete story, then by all means, purchase it. BUT I thought it only fair to say something, as I had been avidly watching the new releases of Me. Phoenix.
For those offended that I would post this.. all I can say is that it's honest and straight forward which is supposed to be the purpose of a review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yum!!! HUGE Sons of Judgment fan! 27 June 2013

I just finished reading this book, overall I think it took me about 10 hours from "cover" to "cover". Why? Because it was AWESOME!!!

Octavian is a Caster, a judge of sorts for Creatures of the Veil. One of the 3 rules passed down from Heaven is to never touch a human. Then in walks Riley and oops, he couldn't keep his hands off her. They are drawn to each other like a moth to a flame, they can't seem to stay away and fall for each other quickly. Everything is stacked against them it seems and just when something gets worked out, another HUGE kink in their plans and lives happen. Both of them are willing to risk anything, except each other, to save the lives of the other. In the background, there's a war brewing between Demons and Angels and it seems the two of them are caught right in the middle, along with Octavian's family and anyone else they love.

****Possible Spoilers****

I loved this story. I couldn't believe the twists and turns it had and would be almost gasping for air as I read about their fight for survival. I was shocked beyond words when learning of "what" Octavian and his family are. I did NOT see that surprise coming. I loved the humor and the wit throughout the book. I was laughing so much through this book at the one liners and sarcastic remarks. And the romance, while there was some sexy parts, they weren't too horrible that someone who didn't want to read them, couldn't skip over them. I just have to say that the parts I read were pretty tastefully done and steamy.

My favorite parts of the book? Octavian's banter with his brothers. The twins absolutely cracked me up to no end. I loved the way his parents treated each other...with reverence and love. Daphne was a very welcomed surprise. I couldn't quit figure out her story, hadn't guessed it, until it was revealed, but I thoroughly enjoyed her part in the story. Honestly though, I can't remember a "favorite part" because I enjoyed the entire book and would end up quoting it in its entirety. Ugh, now to wait for book 2!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Boo 18 July 2015

Wow. Just wow. First of all, the beginning of this book showed such promise - I was so excited for this story to unfold. Then, a quarter of the way through the book (which was about 200 pages, this is the longest book ever) the spelling and grammatical errors began - at one point there was one page where I counted 7 errors! It made it so difficult to read. In addition to that, the story itself did not connect, I felt like there was a lot of setting up for this grand reveal and then it was over and anticlimactic. And don't even get me started on when Octavian and Riley FINALLY sleep together (90% through) - worst scene ever. I only finished this book because I wasted so much time reading the rest of it!! I skipped through a lot because it was so repetitive - not reading the second one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good...can't believe I can't get the sequels yet... 22 August 2014

I was a little nervous about this book. I got the sample and read that before buying and was still nervous. The sample was good enough and made me curious enough to buy the actual book, but I didn’t know what to expect.

Things to note:

1. This book takes place in the British Columbia.
2. IF you guess what Octavian is, you deserve to be labeled a genius because I did not see that coming AT ALL! I actually read that part twice to make sure I read what I thought I read.
3. If you like lots of or detailed sexy time, you may not like this book. It’s at the VERY END and was a very light scene

Now one of the deciding factors for me was that the book was so long. My Amazon said that it was over 500, which I really really liked. When it said I had thirty pages left actually I was like “No, there must be more! How can you wrap this up?”. However it did wrap up and now I am eagerly waiting books 2 and three which are already on Goodreads, but not out which is really disappointing because I want them like YESTERDAY.

One thing that really bothered me was that the main character and the one friend she makes (so you know she will be important later) have red hair. Really? Why? Not that I hate redheads, just I really like characters having different colors of hair and I thought that was a little much.

There is no explanation for how Octavian and his family make their money. They obviously have a lot of it and the bar seems seemingly successful, but really where does the money come from? Especially since the people at the bar don’t pay with money. How do they convert it? It’s not a big deal, but it just bothered me a little.

If you like sexy time you may not like this book because its not there, like at all. Its at the end and all 500 pages leading up to that point they don’t touch AT ALL. There was so much sexual tension built up throughout the first 500 pages and when we finally got to that point it was very anti-climatic. I was just disappointed. I don’t mind no sexy time, but when its built up that much and nothing comes of it, it seems like a waste of words.

I love it when there are BROTHERS!!!! And this one had four total. It always just makes things more fun when you see the brothers fall one by one. I also love the family dynamics and love in this book. It always makes you want to be a part of it.

The whole “This is not real” “What are you scene” wasn’t as bad as some I have read lately. I just hate when that scene is dragged out. You know its real and that they will eventually accept it so why must we make it so incredibly long and ridiculous.

Ok so I’m sure everyone hated her dad as much as I did. I was so happy that she stood up for herself. I don’t think that happens that often in books anymore. People are allowed to stand up to their parents. Even more so when that parent is absolutely horrible. I wasn’t sad to see him go, but I was pissed when she wouldn’t let the guys kill him and it caused so much harm and she ends up doing it herself. She caused all this pain for something that she ends up doing anyway. I know its part of her development or whatever, but why? Why would you do that? If a monster was about to kill my brother-in-law I wouldn’t stop the other brother-in-law from killing the monster no matter what. These guys had been her family more than her dad ever had and she stops them. Characters are so frustrating sometimes.

Overall really good and give it 4.5 out of 5.

The reason its not a 5 out of 5 is what she did to the main character which just bugged me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book 5 July 2013
By Amy Ducky - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I received a free copy for a honest review.

This book was amazing. I didn't know what to really expect when first reading it but WOW is all I can say. Airicka Phoenix came up with some great and interesting characters in this book. I love seeing a Authors imagination coming up with things you would never think of. Thankfully she does a great job at explaining every one of them so you can understand better.

Riley is a sweet 19 year old struggling to keep a roof over her and her dead beat dads head. Her mother left them when she was 5 and she has had to grow up extremely fast. Her father does absolutely nothing but sit in a chair watching TV leaving her to pay all the bills. She stumbles upon a wallet while leaving the post office which brings her to Final Judgement. Getting a job there as a waitress and her world begins to change.

Octavian is a Selkie. Only way to compare it is to a Mermaid type but not exactly. Octavian is a hot man who looks in his twenties but is way way older. His family are the gatekeepers to Hell for the North. They run Final Judgement which is a restaurant/bar for demons waiting for a night pass to get out of Hell for a little while. Humans are not suppose to be able to find Final Judgement and they only reason they can figure out why Riley did is because she is his mate.

These two go threw a lot of crap trying to be together. Riley taking the most of it. But in the end they always figure out some way to stay together. They show true love. There is nothing that either wouldn't do for the other. Octavian is truly a sweetheart which I didn't think was possible with how he acted at the beginning.

Kyaerin (Ki-ren) and Liam or the parents of Octavian, Gideon, Reggie, and Magnus. This family is funny as can be. Kyaerin and Liam are so sweet and understanding. The parents that so many wish for. I love Octavian of course but out of his brothers Gideon was the best. He was funny and sweet and just all kinds of crazy. I can't wait to read more about him.

There are a lot of different characters. So many I can't name them all. Even if I tried you would read this wondering what the heck I was talking about. This is truly a book that you have to read to understand what anything means. I started out trying to do my normal reviews where I tell a little about the book but I kept getting stuck around certain creatures. I knew that when anyone read it they wouldn't understand what I was saying. This book had fighting, laughter, and love. This shows how real families stick together and help each other no matter what the consequences are. I really loved this book. It is another great book by Airicka Phoenix. I definitely recommend this book. It is a must read.
