In her captivating new book, artist and avid beachcomber Josie Iselin returns to the seashore to reveal the unexpected beauty of seaweed. Produced on a flatbed scanner, IselinÆs vibrant portraits of ocean flora reveal the exquisite color and extraordinary forms of more than 200 specimens gathered from tidal pools along the California and Maine coasts. Her engaging text, which accompanies the images, blends personal observation and philosophical musings with scientific fact. Like her previous books, An Ocean Garden: The Secret Life of Seaweed is a poetic and compelling tribute to the natural world and the wonder it evokes.
Josie Iselin is a photographer, writer, and book designer with six previous books to her credit, including Beach Stones, Heart Stones, and Beach: A Book of Treasure. She holds a B.A. in Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard University and an M.F.A. from San Francisco State University. She shows her artwork regularly at galleries and museums throughout the United States. Her work is on view at www.josieiselin.com. She lives and works in San Francisco, where she walks the beach often.

A delight on every page1 July 2016 - Published on Amazon.com
Each page of this book is a delight to be savoured. The shape and form of the seaweeds is a revelation of nature's wonder. The text is very informative as well. This is how science should be shown to kids - in all its beauty and yet with is ability to survive the savage seas.

Beautiful little book5 May 2015 - Published on Amazon.com
Such a sweet little book of perfectly illustrated seaweed. It's really a very pretty book. I collect seaweed when at a beach and press it so it's actually helpful also.
