I strongly recommend this book. If not life changing, it's extremely useful. As are the cited quotes. Unlike another book I would also recommend on turning obstacles to advantages: Antifragile: Things that Gain from Disorder, Nassim Nicholas Taleb, and other books that have been personally helpful to me; Holiday's writing is so concise, practical and accessible I could recommend it to just about anyone
I read this book in one go on the plane from Los Angeles to Brisbane. I really loved it. Well researched and written with lot of inspiring stories. As entrepreneurs and business people, we all face a lot of challenges and obstacles every day and developing our thinking about how we approach them is essential. This is the best book I've read about this topic specifically and I certainly highly recommend reading it to everyone, regardless if you are business or not.
Very good book. The title of the book explains the exact concepts. Thinking about problems that occur in life as something that may be beneficial in the future is something that I had never thought of before
When feeling battered and bruised and very weary, the reading of this book has revived, renewed and revitalised me. What stands in the way becomes the way. By changing the focus of the lens through which I was viewing my life, the obstacles that I was constantly turning away from, seem less formidable.
Consider this book the bible of stoic philosophy and thinking. There is simply no better introductorry book on the topic and on completion, you'll acquire the knowledge and wisdom that will help you overcome any obstacle that happens to present itself. Buy it and thank me later!!
Ryan Holiday did well in using the examples of the greats (Teddy Roosevelt, Marcus Aurelius, etc) to show that resilience is the nicer way to live which gives more joy and freedom of choice. The book urges us to moving past the inconvenience of obstacles to their benefits.
This book is a great guide to the stoic approach to handling life's challenges. It goes beyond the self help platitudes, providing a structured guide to think about and apply to your own life. Lots of great historic examples too!
Recommend for those wanting to improve their application of will towards a goal, or even if you just want to be able to handle the stresses of everyday life more gracefully.
I read this book with an open mind, and it really has changed me for the better. It’s given me a different way to see and frame things, a more positive attitude, and most importantly a better way to respond.
Deep reflections on how to take personal, financial, spiritual, mental, familial, social, vocational obstacles and turn them into personal and actual victories. Beyond a how to manual, it is an operating system for the mind and the soul to navigate the seemingly impossible circumstances.
