Dr Fung makes his points succinctly and with well reasoned support. At the end of reading this book I wept a little because I have spent my entire life following the eat less move more diet without success. I have felt like a failure my entire life because I was unable to lose weight and keep it off following such a simple edict. I have started doing intermittent fasting and so far am losing weight, see how I go in six months and this book could be defined as life changing.
This book I needed to read a decade ago...have counted calories for 50 years and points and been to all diet clinics too...this is so easy to understand and so easy to do....IF is wonderful and I am doing well with it and my weight is moving....Dr Fung explains it all simply and my first weight lose came by just giving up sweetners.......just suddenly being told they raise insulin levels was the first step and been upward every since....if you are really over dieting and counting the calories or buying prepared diet food etc, this is the book for you....
Jason has literally saved my life. The key to losing weight, for me, was understanding WHY I was morbidly obese. Once I understood the biology everything else just fell into place. Brilliant read. A life changer.
It's been a bit of a journey trying to find a decent science backed book that not only makes sense, but also registers with my person experience. I started off highlighting certain sentences, which soon became highlighted paragraphs, and then pages! Very highly recommended!
I have read a lot of books on diet and health. I think the best of the new books questioning the cult of low fat and a lot of carbohydrate, have merit in that they help to free open minded people from the damaging results of that low fat cult and they are good background material. This book however, is the best I have ever read - about not only the above, but also a lot more. Including about how to finally gain control over a too high body weight set point that has crept up for me during my life. The book focuses on the causes of obesity and It put all the pieces I have struggled to figure out, together and (very important to me) uses good research on humans. It is thorough, and to me shows the heart, (compassion, caring, passion), of a doctor who has vision, who wants to make a difference, and I am certain, he is and he will.
After a life time of battling obesity and failing despite my best efforts, this book sheds light on how trusted nutritional advise was actually making me fat! I've already started fasting and changing diet and I'm feeling great and the weight just drops off.
Well written and succinct this book is well set out and easy to understand and implement in daily life
