"Scott Matthews is a great story teller. The action is fast paced. The terrorism aspects are right out of the news..." Amazon Reviewer - July 22, 2015

I don't award them often, but this thriller was deserving of the five stars in my opinion!"
Top 1000 Amazon Reviewer - June 30, 2015

The trail of America's most wanted terrorist goes cold in Tijuana. Then a nuclear device is detected when its smuggled under the border in a cartel tunnel. Adam Drake has been hunting the terrorist and thinks he knows where the nuclear device and the terrorist are headed. He needs to find them both to prevent an unimaginable catastrophe America didn't see coming.

Great story, more twists than a roller coaster. Nonstop action with exciting plots that cleverly intertwine with each other..." Amazon Reviewer - May 22, 2015

"GREAT SECOND NOVEL! I absolutely love Adam Drake. The stories are incredible. Please keep 'em coming!" Amazon reviewer, March 26, 2015.

"OATH TO DEFEND IS OUTSTANDING! 5 stars because it is a timely, believable story. Adam Drake is a character on the level of Mitch Rapp. Great book. Read it!" Amazon Reviewer, February 16, 2015

I really enjoyed this from start to finish. Story line--characters--intrigue was awesome. Great story without the strong language was appreciated. I will continue to read anything by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars This Guy Is A Pretty Good Writer 1 April 2015

Fun read. Lots of sophomoric jock behavior and stupid social dialogue, but good plot, fun story, and lots of action. Definitely not literature but a good escape and worth a read.
4.0 out of 5 stars A Cat and Mouse Game 23 July 2015

When I acquired "Oath to Defend", I was unaware that it was book #2 in a series. Before starting it, I was concerned that I might have trouble following the story because I missed the previous installment. I found the concern unwarranted, the story makes reference to occurrences in book #1, but it was a great stand-alone story.

Oath to Defend takes readers into the world of smuggling, espionage, drug cartels and fanatical terrorists where death is an everyday occurrence and consciences are non-existent. Now the United States is targeted - suicide bombers looking forward to martyr themselves and then joining their 72 virgins in paradise. The terrorist seem to always be a step ahead of the people looking for them. It's a game of cat and mouse...hundreds of Americans have already died needlessly - hundreds of thousands more will perish if the terrorists succeed in their mission! Adam Drake and his team of operatives must find them and stop them from detonating a nuclear bomb.

I sat on the edge of my seat intrigued and sometimes holding my breath while watching this story unfold...aware that something like this could very well happen in the near future. The characters are well developed and the story moves smoothly. Great job Mr. Matthews! I have already downloaded book #3 and can't wait to begin that adventure. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Maybe he thought his target was down...[the] wine glass exploding probably looked like a head shot from where he was standing." 1 July 2015

I don't award them often, but this thriller was deserving of five stars in my opinion! Took a bit to grasp who was who at first (probably because I hadn't read book one in the series) but I really come to enjoy the characters as the book progressed which is a sure sign of a great read. Action became so intense toward the close of the book I found myself racing to want to finish it. Unusual in that it had not one, but two strong female characters present opposite several male leads as well as some fun dialogue amongst the sexes evident by passages like, "You lost control of things as soon as the women took over your kitchen." Also had some hard hitting passages like, "When someone knowingly cooperates with terrorists to make a buck, he's an enemy combatant in my book" and "America was afraid to use its power. If he ran the country, every drug smuggler he caught would be executed..." that left their mark. Given the length of the review (which is long for me) and my desire to purchase more books in the series (which I surely do) then it earns top honors!

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Oath To Defend' is a great thriller.... 30 July 2013

Scott Matthews' current thriller entitled 'Oath To Defend' (published in May 2013)is a very good read, well worth your time if you like believable suspense, snappy dialogue and lots of action. It is actually the sequel to another excellent story entitled 'The Assassin's List' (published in August 2012) which tells the story of Adam Drake, an attorney who longs to get back into the thrill of hunting down the bad guys and his on again, off again team of like-minded patriots who answer his call for help when he confronts the mysterious murder of a client's secretary. These two books are a very reasonable investment in entertainment and can be read in any order...I just happened to come across 'The Assassin's List' first so that was the first one I read. As you might expect, and I don't think I'm giving away too much information here, the good guys win in the end but it is interesting to see how they go about it. And winning in the end doesn't mean there aren't serious setbacks along the way and the good guys only miss the bad guys by a little bit until the very end. I predict if you are a fan of David Hagbert, Vince Flynn, David Baldacci, Brad Thor, etc. you will not be disappointed in either of these two stories.
