Elly Griffiths is an excellent writer. I own 5 of her books on Kindle. The problem with this book is the plot.
SPOILER ALERT:
Emma is supposedly a legendary detective.
As a mother of 3 young children, she sets herself up as bait for a killer! and brings her infant son with her!
Next the "legendary detective" sends her 6 year old and nine year old daughters alone to the local corner store, even though her husband told her that there could be fights between factions! and there is still a killer on the loose!
Give me a break!

Review
A Bustle Best Book of December "A limitless talent, a novelist in the humane vein of Louise Penny and Kate Atkinson, Elly Griffiths is one of my flat-out favorite contemporary suspense writers. No matter the book--a Ruth Galloway mystery, a Magic Men caper, an ambitious, assured non-series thriller--she innovates and excites; I turn each final page both deeply satisfied and ravenous for more."
--AJ Finn "Wry, emotionally intelligent and quietly satisfying."
--Sunday Times "Griffiths's plotting skills, well known from her Ruth Galloway mystery series, are on full display here, as is her talent for sharp thumbnail sketches of even minor characters...The author builds the tension slowly, then swiftly ramps up the intensity of the case and its implications...With glimpses into the colorful youth culture of the 1960s and flashes of Griffiths's dry wit, Now You See Them is an enjoyable addition to an entertaining series."
--Shelf Awareness "Full of fun and expertly plotted, this is in many ways a cosy read but there is real depth to the way the characters cope not only with changing times but changes in themselves as they mature."

About the Author
Elly Griffiths, winner of the 2011 Mary Higgins Clark Award and the 2016 CWA Dagger in the Library Award, is the author of two mystery series, one taking place in Norfolk and the other in Brighton. Her Ruth Galloway novels take for their inspiration Elly's husband, who gave up a city job to train as an archaeologist, and her aunt who lives on the Norfolk coast and filled her head with the myths and legends of that area. The second series takes place in the fifties and features Detective Inspector Edgar Stephens and illusionist Max Mephisto.

Time Jump

I enjoyed the book, and I like the Magic Men series. But I was hoping to follow the various relationships instead of having the author jump ahead like she did. Characters ended up where you knew they would eventually but I would have enjoyed the details.

The best light mysteries

I really enjoy Elly Griffith’s mysteries. I have read all of the Magic Men books and all the Ruth Galloway books. I recommend them highly. The worst part is waiting for the next in a series to come out. I am looking forward to reading her stand-alone book, Stranger Diaries next.

Always Engaging

This is a fun mystery series set in the fifties and sixties. The main characters are engaging and the setting, Brighton, is delightful!

Elly Griffiths Terrific Series

Elly Griffiths knocks it out of the park again. Her ability to develop empathetic characters is amazing. Her storyline is great. The suspense keeps building until the mystery is solved.
