Product Description

As the last descendants of Earth struggle to survive beneath the surface of a distant water planet, one man's discovery will lead him on a journey of redemption while he fights to save what's left of his world.

Jacob Stone is a young man haunted by his past. When he reluctantly accepts a job to help pay for a transport submarine he inherited but doesn't want, he inadvertently awakens an ancient and terrible power.

Its arrival triggers a chain of events that could destroy what's left of the human race or be the key to its future. But, is it a future he's willing to fight for, let alone die for?

Novum: Genesis is the first book in the Novum series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Domed cities beneath the ocean and some great action 20 July 2015
By Catherine Mackay - Published on Amazon.com

I really enjoyed the premise of this novella - it was well written, had some good action sequences, it was well-plotted, and had some very interesting characters, particularly Jane Doe, and I loved the future setting beneath the oceans of a distant world. Humans live in domed cities and towns - Earth is just a distant memory - beneath the ocean under a repressive government that holds its own secrets, including their acummulation of forbidden pre-fall technology. Enter Jake Stone, who has inherited a ship he doesn't want because it holds painful memories of the loss of his girlfriend, Stacy. His drunken binges and brawls are putting him closer to bankruptsy until, he surprisingly finds himself with a group of people who wish to hire his ship. From that point on, Jake finds himself in the middle of an adventure, with a group of people who hold their own secrets. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story 1 September 2013

Novum is a nice little underwater adventure story. It is set in the future after "the fall of man" and people live underwater in big underwater cities and such. I enjoyed Novum and the little adventure had by Jake Stone and what is the new crew of his ship the Rogue Wave.

Only "complaint" i have is that the story wasn't longer. I would definitely like to see more in the future of this character and from author Joseph Rhea.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Rattling off specs doesn't mean u know a ship, you have to live inside her for awhile to really get to know a vessel like this" 31 July 2015
By Don Kidwell - Published on Amazon.com

A troubled captain, his ship commandeered by an eclectic boarding party, a hunt for a Pre-Fall weapon capable of mind control - all the elements of a highly entertaining sci-fi tale set in a post-apocalyptic environment beneath the sea. ' "Are you prepared for what is coming? she whispered. "I hope so..." ' Very good book and I do look forward to the ongoing tale!

3.0 out of 5 stars Probably better suited for younger readers 18 January 2015
By Marcus Andrews - Published on Amazon.com

Novum is enjoyable start to a new sci-fi series set in an intriguing and mostly well thought-out post-apocalyptic future. It's on the shorter side and moves along briskly, making it a good choice for a weekend read. However, the writing is fairly simplistic and a few elements of the plot fall into place much too easily, as when the characters manage to ascertain the purpose of a mysterious ancient artifact based on very little information. Also, in several instances I felt the author could have wrung much more excitement out of the story. Descriptions tend to be thin and character development is somewhat lacking, so for me Novum never really came alive. This is not to say that I didn't enjoy it -- only that in my view it would have been better had it been a more challenging read. As it is, I feel it's probably better suited to younger fans of science-fiction, whom I suspect will find it very entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good novella, with more to come 28 May 2015
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

Our down & out hero has a chance to rehabilitate himself when mysterious strangers hire his submarine, which naturally turns out to be for an illegal mission. As we gradually discover the current universe, things get wierder. It is a fun ride, but we seem to know less about the physical universe and the politics of the human settlement than we did when we started.

Doubtless all will be revealed as the rest of this book is published.; the second section (or second novella if you prefer) is available on Amazon and the third seems on the way soon.

Good characters, good plotting, good action, good fun
