I really enjoyed the first book in this series, the second wasn’t quite as good as the first but still an entertaining read, unfortunately this third installment of the series left a lot to be desired.
The Scarlet character has become so unbelievable and detached from the original character that it felt like the only thing linking this story to the first were the names of the characters. Another reason I didn’t like this story was that it felt like Ali McNamara was a little bit patronising with the constant name dropping throughout this book so much so It felt like I was reading the Timeout New York travel guide at times (Scarlet can’t just go get a burger from across the street no, she has to go to Manhattans best burger restaurant Shake Shack with a description of the half the menu) this happens throughout the book from restaurants to shops and tourist attractions, it was as if Ali McNamara just wanted to impress readers with her knowledge of ‘touristy’ New York.
I finished this book only because I don’t like leaving a book unfinished but between the now unbelievable (and unlikable) characters, the tourist guide info being forced upon me, the unnecessary celebrity cameos(?!) and the ridiculously far fetched plot I won’t be buying a fourth installment should one written. If girly New York stories are your cup of tea then go for the ‘I Heart’ Series by Lindsay Kelk instead which is much funnier and much less patronising with good characters and decent plots.
