Product Description

Emma Harris is learning that life is just a series of lessons.

Lesson #1: Nothing goes the way you plan.
Lesson #2: You can’t trust men. Especially not the pretty ones.
Lesson #3: Turns out, appearances are almost always deceiving.

Emma thinks she has life all figured out, and what she knows isn't good. For years, she’s put her big sister, who was born with Down syndrome, first. Now Emma’s ready to start her own life, but fate has other plans. To do the right thing for the sister she loves, Emma’s dreams will just have to wait.

She doesn't plan on meeting Landon — a rich, flirtatious jock, who never has to wait for anything. Not for attention, not for money, and certainly not for girls. Meeting Emma marks the first time in his life that he’s had to fight for something. And Landon doesn't know how to lose.

Emma has no interest in wasting her summer with a superficial guy like Landon. But very soon she realizes she is wrong about him. The question is, can she trust him? Or will he let her down like every other guy in her life? But most importantly, can Emma trust herself enough to live the life she's always dreamed of?

Life has a way of sneaking in the most important lessons when you aren't looking. And once the heart gets involved, that's when the real learning begins.

I read a lot of books in this genre and this would have to be the worst I have read in a long time. Sorry, not for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars In Review: Not Yet (Not Yet #1) by Laura Ward 30 May 2016
By Kim - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Not Yet is a book that's been on my TBR for a long time. I'm not sure why it's lingered on my list as long as it did because I've heard so many wonderful things about it, I've enjoyed other books by this author and I met her and thought she was just fantastic. Yet, here we are. I'm sorry it took me so long to read it, but I'm really happy I picked it up last weekend. It was a great, quick and emotional read and I enjoyed it a lot.

The book starts off in a way that led me to believe it was just going to be another new adult romance. Not that there's anything wrong with that, you understand. I love new adult romance. I assumed this would just be a story of two opposites attracting and, while slightly inconvenient because they were coworkers, it wouldn't be much more than that. Boy, was I wrong. I'm not going to get all spoilery or talk about what Not Yet actually turned out to be because, honestly, it's best if you just experience it all for yourself. All I'll say is that it definitely takes a turn partway through and, as much as I was enjoying the beginning part, the second half is where these characters and this story really shined for me.

This was an emotional read, but it wasn't one that had me crying every few pages. It was more of a roller coaster than that. I thought the characters were great. Of course, Emma and Landon were my favorites. I didn't love them both all the time, but they were real and flawed. They got it wrong sometimes. As people do. Both of them grew so much through this book, but it was Landon that really won the day. He started the book as a boy and ended as a man... and a damn fine one at that.

I enjoyed (most of) the secondary characters in this book as well. Emma's sister Evie was just flat out wonderful. I loved the simple and honest way she looked at love and life. Emma's mom wasn't a huge part of the story, but there were a couple scenes where she really stood out to me. Dean might've been Landon's best friend, but more often than not, I thought he was a jerk. He wasn't a truly awful character, but he was just a typical popular high school jock. That is, until he wasn't anymore. He, too, grew over the course of this story and I can't wait for Until Now to see what life will bring for him.

If you've ever been hurt or had a tough time granting trust in a relationship, or you've ever wanted someone you can't have, Not Yet will hit you hard at times. The emotions the characters are facing are so raw, so real, so perfectly imperfect that it darn near took my breath away at times. Sometimes when you have to wait, the payoff is worth all the pain and that certainly was the case for Emma and Landon, and too, in some ways, for me with this book. I saw some of myself in both of the characters, for different reasons, and that made this book so much more than just a romance to me. I wish now I hadn't waited so long to read it, but I'm certainly not disappointed in the experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific and heartwarming read 30 July 2014

This is a touching and heartwarming story about how sometimes it's just not the right time to fall in love, but just because the answer is "not yet" it doesn't mean it's "no." Ward created a cast of characters that were easy to care about and root for. I loved getting to see Landon's side of the story. His interactions with his best friend were funny and at the same time, we got to see that he wasn't just the cocky jock...he was sweet too. I loved watching him grow, mature, and become worthy of a relationship with Emma.

One of the things I particularly liked about this book was how it incorporated people with special needs in a way that shaped and molded the characters of the story into better people. I can't recall any other books that face this subject matter so strongly and positively. Ward has an incredible message and incorporates it wonderfully into Emma and Landon's story: Everyone is equal. And those who are special, even though they're different, have something to teach us if we pay attention.

I also loved how Emma and Landon learned life lessons throughout the book. It was clever how the lessons were highlighted at the end of each chapter, reminding the reader (sometimes with humor and sometimes with heartache) what Emma and Landon learned as they navigated the obstacles of their lives. Sometimes the life lessons were positive, sometimes they were negative, but there was always a message. The best one? "Sometimes it's the wait...the not yets of life that are the very best lessons of all to learn."

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book! 30 May 2016

My Rating: 5

This was my first book by Laura, and I only went and bought it because I'd agreed to read book two for review. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked her personal style, as well as the "lesson learned" duel chapter style she used to tell this story. So interesting and I liked seeing what the focus for each chapter was for each character!

Emma is a twenty one year old lifeguard trying to get a job as a middle grades teacher... she ends up as a pool manager at a country club for the summer and meets Landon - a nineteen year old player who was constantly surrounded by girls! Things spice up between the two with some instant attraction - and get even spicier from there! There was an array of wonderfully amazing characters in this story and I adored getting to know them all! Evie especially, and Amy and Billy. I have a special place in my heart for those kids and the ones in my own life they remind me of.

This is such a sweet story with a dash of sexy and a tiny smidge of the forbidden.
Emma is a young college grad who has returned home to help her family - putting her dreams on hold - when she meets the slightly younger Landon at the pool where they are both working for the summer.
They were having a typical summer romance and falling in love when life throws them a giant curve ball. I don't want to spoil anything - so no details about what the curveball is, but I will say that how both Emma and Landon handled it made me like and respect them both even more.
There is just enough angst that I appreciated the happy ending and I liked how the author gave us glimpses of Landon and Emma down the road, so that the story felt truly complete. The secondary cast is a lot of fun and they play key roles in the evolution of our characters.
Ms. Ward is a new author for me, but I am definitely curious to see if she has other work available.

I am impressed and in a very good way. Because when I first met Landon, our hero, I disliked him immediately and I hoped that he's not the guy who's going to end up with Emma. And then I turned the page and right there the next chapter was from Landon's POV, so it was a fact..he was one of the leading characters and I was dissapointed. But what a surprise I got once the plot kept advancing, the way he changed and became a better person by his own will.
His patience, his love and devotion for Emma and her family and the people she cared about was just wow. Stunning.
Also the plot was challenging and somehow new, things that we take for granted in a male's character I found this time in the female's story. I won't reveal what is it because I don't want to spoil the story but for me was refreshing to see this change in a book and I really enjoyed it. A very beautiful message about unconditional love and how much we can change the lives of less unfortunate ones only by being there when no one is. I recommend it. Enjoy!
