Not Real Capitalism!: Exposing Socialist Misinformation about The American Economy (NRC Book 1) Kindle Edition
See all formats and editions Hide other formats and editions
Not Real Capitalism is a detailed account of significant government interventions in the US Economy. The book details the misinformation fed to the public by mass-media, politicians and educators, and exposes the truth: The American Economy is a mixed-market economy heavily manipulated by the government. In 380 pages, with over 460 end notes, the book destroys the narrative that the US Economy is in decline because of "unfettered free markets", takes on the great myth of that the 2007-2009 "Great Recession" was caused by "deregulation", and exposes the tremendous amount of local, state and federal government involvement in economic activity. The book begins by documenting examples of misinformation by people in power, aimed at scaring and manipulating public opinion about the economy. Over and over again, politicians, media pundits and academics either knowingly lie about the economy being a "unfettered" free market, or, in their own ignorance make claims that they cannot validate, however the media never questions it. The book then details as much as reasonably possible of the types of severe interventions that hamper, manipulate and hurt the economy. Chapters cover the Progressive Income Tax, Corporate Subsidies, Industrial Regulations, Financial Regulations, Capital Market manipulation, the monopoly on the monetary system, regulations effecting the labor market, wage laws, land and property restrictions, monopolies granted by the government, state-owned resources, protectionism and the lack of free trade, the health care and health insurance industry and regulations effecting it, as well as the welfare state and redistribution of wealth via social security. The book concludes with four chapters that make philosophical arguments as to why a truly unhampered free market would be better than the current system. Not Real Capitalism is filled with not only significant information debunking the ongoing fraud perpetrated on the American public by those in power, but also with lessons on both basic and intermediate economic concepts that explain why the government interventions detailed hurt the economy, and disproportionately hurt those most vulnerable. Not Real Capitalism! is a must read for any person interested in understanding why the US Economy seems to only work for the rich and powerful, why entrepreneurship has become so much more difficult, and why accumulating wealth for many American's seems like an impossible task.
