Neve Colvin isn't good enough. As an introvert, her life is a never-ending list of labels and criticism. Pressures to change come from everyone--including the one person she thought would love her unconditionally ... her mother. All Neve wants is acceptance, but surrounded by extroverts it's a wish that's nearly impossible to fulfil.

For Neve there's only one solution: anyone disapproving must go. Even if it means only one person will remain.

That person is her lifelong friend Blake Reynolds. He's seen the fights with her mum, the breakdowns caused by attacks on her personality, and the battles for acceptance. Each time she is left shattered and questioning who she is, he's the one to collect the pieces of her broken heart. Shielding her from the cruelty is his only concern. But how can he protect her when Neve is concealing a secret so dark?

Blake thinks he knows everything about her, and with their relationship developing, he assumes Neve trusts him fully. However, there is one memory Neve is too ashamed of to share. Revealing it will test Blake's loyalty beyond what she could ever ask, and Blake is the only friend she can't afford to lose. He's the one person capable of dragging her from the darkness plaguing her, but with pressures to conform increasing, even Blake may not be enough to pull her back this time.

Not Enough is a full-length, standalone contemporary romance. It is written in British English with British spelling and grammar.
Due to some strong language it is recommended for 17+ readers.

I found that she has a way with emotions. Ms. Hoddell brings them out - you fill the raw - deep emotions-depression -loneliness -wanting to be loved. The characters in the story seem so real life- you can feel what they are going through. You might eve known someone that is going through the same thing. It deals with real life emotions and facts. The emotions and situations are very raw and deep. As for the scenes in it- the reader is able to see them right before their eyes.

The story opens with Neve writing at a riverbank. She is writing a letter- we aren't told to whom at this time. But it is filled with some very raw emotions. Whom ever she is speaking of is telling her she is not good enough. Have you ever felt that way?

We next see Neve speaking with her best friend Blake. Blake is asking her to move in with him. He has an extra room. And anytime she needs him an wants to get away from her mother. She has a room and a place to come to.

When she goes home - her mum starts in telling her that she needs to needs to be around people. Get out more- and not around Blake- she needs to date-go to clubs- drink have fun. Not hole up in her all the time. She isn't doing anything -not making any money- just wasting her time- not good enough.

Finally one night after going clubbing with Cece and Blake rescuing her. He takes her- her mum starts in again. Neve has had enough- Blake and her pack up her belongings. And she moves in with him. Only to find out that the room is occupied with his roomie Robbie. Now Neve and Blake share his room together.

What happens to Neve? Does she ever feel GOOD ENOUGH? And what about Neve and Blake? Ad Neve and her mum? For all the answers you ARE GONNA HAVE TO READ THE BOOK!!!

I recommend this book to all- but please realize that this deal with raw emotions. Mismousey gives this a 70 out of 5 stars.

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book has stunned me in so many ways. What I wasn’t prepared for was knowing how much I could possibly be loving this book. I literally lived the pages, not read them. I know how it feels to always feel not good enough, always be criticized. Give this book to introverts and they’ll fall for it instantly.

It’s so well and beautifully written, it is more than just another YA novel. This book is meant to open people’s eyes as to what an introvert is and what it actually means – being one is not a problem, or an issue or an illness. It is just the way someone is born. We aren’t the ones who choose the way we are born, all we can do is learn to accept the way we or the others are.

Not Enough is the story of a young girl named Neve, who had to bear her mothers criticism, awful comments or powerful words for all of her life. She’s always made her feel like she wasn’t good enough no matter what she did or achieved. For her mum, all that really mattered was for her to go out, spend time around people, building up a life for her – a life that didn’t make Neve happy.

Good thing though, she had Blake, her lifetime best friend who stood by her everytime. Helped her pick up the broken pieces of her heart, soul and dreams. What Blake does not know is that Neve wanted to take her life once. Afraid that if she would tell him all of her darkest fears and thoughts that are going on he’ll leave, she decides to keep it all a secret until time felt right.

If you want to know how their story will end, you MUST READ the book. But prepare yourself cause you’ll need some tissues along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heartwarming tale of friendship developing into a relationship 16 November 2015

*I received a copy in return for my honest review*

WOW this book is an emotionally consuming read. It really tugs at your emotions and allows you to feel exactly how Neve feels. Neve is belittled and picked on by everyone she ever meets including her family and mother.
Neve's mother is positively horrible, I have no idea how someone could be so awful to their own daughter. A mother's job is to help and support their child, not belittle them at every opportunity.
The only person she can ever and has ever been able to rely on is Blake. What neither of them knows is they both want more from their friendship.
A heartwarming tale of friendship developing into a relationship when She needs it the most. This book sucked me in, the more I read the more I wanted to read on. It really caught me and yeah it upset me at times too. It really does hit you hard emotionally though and it makes you think. Totally 5* worthy in my opinion.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment 4 April 2016

I couldn't finish this book. The characters were so vapid and one-dimensional, it was a chore to slog through it. The main character, Neve, on the one hand moans incessantly about the emotional abuse she's subjected to at the hands of her mother and her friend, then on the other hand can't stop whining because her mother, after supporting her through college, won't agree to continue financially supporting her for the next couple of years as she tries to get her new business off the ground. She actually has the gall to gripe about how unfair it is that her mom expects her to get a job. Neve is such an entitled crybaby, it was no mystery to me why no one likes her. Her best friend/boyfriend, Blake, is more likable, but he's so flat, he may as well have been cut out of cardboard. His sole purpose in the story is to convince the audience that Neve is really awesome beneath all that indulgent self pity. I sent this one back.

I was sent this for my honest review. This is a massive emotional, beautiful story about Neve, she has always been the quiet, timid girl who tries to stay out of any spotlight. While in a family full of loud opinionated people who did nothing but put self doubt and be critical about her and what she wanted to do as well as school she decided to shut off from it all. Throughout all of this there was one person who was always positive for her her best friend Blake. I really have enjoyed reading this and it does question how we react and treat others, it really is a must read that will leave you thinking about it along time after you finish it....... beautiful
