5.0 out of 5 stars Engineer a Winning Startup 23 July 2014
By Daniel James - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
If you are taking the first steps to engineer a startup, this book should be step one.

What was really great to see was Samir's ability to combine meta with reference, theory with example, and advice with action.

No Startup Hipsters contains a ton of gems, and some of my favorite moments are when he cuts through the clutter currently found on startup guru blogs, for example:

"Create value not a minimum value product" (Kindle Location 410)

"Back in 1954 Peter Drucker wrote that any business enterprise has only two basic functions: innovation and marketing." (Kindle Location 943)

"Despite persistent talks of 'release early/ release often', the fear of looking like idiots in front of major Wall Street firms kept the team from releasing a product into the market." (Kindle Locations 1087-1088)

Solid read, well worth the time and money to get a comprehensive 360 degree view of your startup.

4.0 out of 5 stars No Startup Hipsters is a great read about realistic entrepreneurship 5 August 2014
By Christina Bernard - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
No Startup Hipsters is a great read about realistic entrepreneurship. The authors encourage the readers to know everything about the method they use and the reason they chose to lose it, and gifts good examples to support it's stance.

Because of this the style is a bit boring, it's like reading a textbook, however, it's a textbook that you should read. Especially if you keep using the word 'lean' and don't really know if you start-up should fit in that category or how that category works. ( yes...i'm talking to you)

This is a serious book for serious entrepreneurs. Though it was difficult to read at times, I enjoyed it because there's no bull just straight talk. So if you're a serious entrepreneur, this book will answer a lot of questions for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for tech business people! 1 July 2014
By Mario - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This is a very down-to earth business book. It explains how nothing substitutes hard work, research and end-user engagement when creating and testing products. The author IS technical and his writing style does fit into an "engineer mindset" but the lessons are invaluable if the reader can get past his sober style. The author would have been better off if he had geared the book as something for startups in general, pointing out his experience in the tech sector, because his approach applies to startups in general. Great read.
