Six years ago, a positive pregnancy test destroyed Ava. Her goals, her relationship, the entire way she viewed her future.
From the rubble, a rule was created: No bad boys.
In their wake is chaos and destruction, something she could no longer risk.
Ava has been happy with this rule, until now.
The bad boy across the hall makes her want to abandon it. Those hazel eyes piercing her, as though they can read her mind. That gentle smile as he interacts with her son. Dax awakens something in her that she’s never felt before.
Will she regret opening her heart to another bad boy?

Dax is determined to earn back the respect he lost for himself years ago and create a future he can be proud of. He’s spent his life breaking rules and now he has a rigid set of rules to live by.
Ava is a distraction he doesn’t need.
Nothing like the women from his past, everything about her from her adorable son to the paint constantly covering her hands reminds him of why he needs to focus. He knows the look in her eyes, he fights the urge to give in to that look. He doesn’t deserve it, at least not yet.
Will Dax ever feel like he’s earned it, or will a call from his past cause him to push her away for good?

Rules are meant to be broken.

4.0 out of 5 stars He is a reformed bad boy, to an extent 1 January 2016

This is the second book in the Rule series. They are stand alones, but I suggest you read them in order. This was an enjoyable read and series. It’s definitely a series I will continue to read.

Ava is Lucas’ little sister. She just started at the college, but she only lives there part-time because of Noah, her five-year-old son. She had him when she was sixteen.

Dax is Andie’s older brother. He is a reformed bad boy, to an extent. He wants to be better and he’s honestly trying. He’s attracted to Ava but he doesn’t think he is worthy of her because of his past.

“We all have things in the past we aren’t proud of. Things we feel shame over. Things no one knows. At some point, wouldn’t it be nice to know theres one person who knows everything and is still there for you? Whether it’s a friend or a lover, it doesn’t matter.”

Ava has a no bad boy rule. But for Dax, she would break that rule.

Their relationship moves very fast, but it works for them. I did like both Ava and Dax. Ava is a great mom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Admirable teen mom heroine makes a great role model in this New Adult romance... 30 December 2015

Book 2 in the Rule series, it can be read as a standalone. The first book featured Andi and Lucas. This story features Andi’s brother, Dax, and Lucas’s sister, Ava.

On the verge of turning 21, Ava might be young but she’s had to mature fast and she’s become strong. Personally, I’m getting a little tired of the virgin heroine in romance so Ava as a teen mom was a fresh angle and done well. She’s a good mom, with her priorities straight, and a positive role model as far as fictional characters go. Ava might just be one of my favorite down to earth yet spunky heroines I’ve read in a long while.

Ava’s had enough bad boys in her life, having gotten pregnant at 15. But she considers making an exception for the one living across the hall from her brother. Dax is finally walking the straight and narrow as a college student after years in a gang. He’s not proud of his past and he doesn’t think he’s good enough for a girl like Ava. Neither can resist the pull they feel towards each other and decide to give it a shot.

Told via Ava and Dax’s alternating first person POV, second chances is a predominate theme in the book. Can people change? That’s what Ava and Dax contemplate. Both are examples of how some reckless decisions of the teen years can be overcome, leading to a stronger and wiser adult self. And that’s one of the things I really liked about this story. It presents realistic struggles that fit the characters without inducing unnecessary angst that at times befalls the New Adult genre, and the situations are handled with maturity.

No one makes the right choices all of the time but you can learn from your mistakes. That presentation is what helped me find all the characters very likable, even Joe who defied what would often be a stereotypical role. I look forward to future books in the series to get the stories on their friends as well as see more of the couples already featured.

This is the first time I have read Ashley Erin, and I'm so very glad I did, as I LOVED this book. Ava got pregnant in High School, and it changed the course of her life. As the father didn't want much to do with them, she made a new rule of no bad boys. She's stuck to this rule for 6 years, until she comes face to face with the bad boy across the hall. Dax made many bad decisions as a teenager, and now all he wants is to earn back respect he lost, on top of a future he can be proud of. Women are a distraction he doesn't need in his journey of redemption, but that flies out of the window when he meets Ava. He knows he will never be good enough for her, but he can't get her out of his head. As they decide to take a chance on each other, Dax's past comes back. Will he leave it alone, or will he push her away for good?

WOW! I completely and utterly fell in love with Dax. His determination to fix his past came flying out of the kindle, and I cheered for him out loud. The character development is spot on, with a fast paced, sweet, and well written story line that flowed very smoothly. Ashley Erin's talented writing style had waves of emotions rolling out of my kindle which kept my heart racing the whole time reading, on top of well placed humor that had me laughing hard. The chemistry of the characters is sizzling, leading to SMOKIN' HOT sexy scenes. The secondaries were fantastic, and I'm very excited for them to get their own stories. I CANNOT WAIT to read more by this author, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I received and ARC for an honest review.

Ava has been a single mother since she was 16. Finally taking time to go to school she struggles with making sure she is making the right choices for her and her son. Knowing she needs to do this to give him a great life she doesn't want to complicate it more by dating and especially dating a bad boy like Dax.
Dax has had a rough life. Joining a gang at a young age; being thrust into drugs and violence among other things he finally got clean and out of that life and is trying to be a good person and worthy of his friends and Ava and her son.

I think I love this book even more than The No A@*hole Rule. I love that even though Dax is huge and scary he has a soft and funny side. He laughs and makes Ava laugh along with treating her son as if he was his own. I love reading about a man that is tough yet has a soft spot for those few he lets close. Ava being so strong and independent, being a great mother and knowing what she needs to do and what is important for her and her son gives her character great meaning. Her and Dax compliment each other perfectly.

I give this book 5 stars
