I loved the way this book dived right into the action and straight away you knew something amazing was happening. Both leads are strong and vulnerable enough to make them real and likeable. I also appreciated that although the next story will be about Treyvon and Jen they were kept as support characters throughout this book. Too often you feel like the current book is only being written to make you want the next one. Well I did want it and I did buy it but only because I loved Nikhil and Mac and the world of the Kaliszians. (Well ok, the last chapter was just too tempting to not read on lol.) This promises to be a complex series with many worlds involved and also a great overaching plot about righting a wrong. Will be keeping this one.
I have loved every one of Michelle's books since reading Grim! This book is taking up the story of the Kaliszians, a trading partner and sometimes ally and sometimes enemy (nearly) of the Tornians. The two races are forced to remain on good terms as they each rely on the other for a vital resource. The Tornians need the Power Crystals that only the Kaliszians have and the Kaliszians need the food that only the Tornians can grow. Many hundreds of years ago a member of each race brought down the fury of their goddess on them and each race was cursed differently. The Tornians lost the ability to breed more than a few females while the Kaliszian's planets became barren and unable to grow anything, let alone food! Well, don't worry guys because another species, the Ganglians, really bad guys, discovered Earth and therefore Humans! Especially Human women, who they kidnapped. The first of these women were saved by Tornians and were seen as a miracle as they were compatible and the first to fall pregnant bore a baby girl. Now we have a group of humans being held on a mining planet in Kaliszian space. 2 out of 10 of them are women. The men all did their best to hide them but one of them, Mac, gets found out and is severely beaten. A Kaliszian called Nikhil is what is known as an Elite Warrior, one of the best of the best. He finds Mac and is immediately drawn to her, to the extent that he disobeys his senior officers in refusing to leave her side. Why this was and what Mac's position will be in the scheme of things is what will keep you glued to this book. Having said all that I'm just going to say that I can't wait to read Treyvor! Anyone who loves good sci fi romance will love this book. 18+ readers.
As always MK Eidem has again written a wonderful book that flows with style and provides the reader with interesting and well rounded characters. The world of the Kalizans and the Torians is exciting and has some wonderful twists and the characters meld together so that the reader wants to read the next book as soon as possible to find out how the stories evolve. Love this author since the first book Grim.
To be honest, I hardly ever bother writing reviews for books, even if I enjoy them... BUT I fell in love with Ms. Eidem's novels with Cassandra's Challenge and I've read and loved every single once since. Nikhil was no different. I loved both the lead characters, I loved the glimpse we got of Treyvon (a character I've been fascinated with since Wray) and I love the continuation of the entire storyline. Bravo. Fantastic story - please hurry with Treyvon!!
I am an avid read of Sci Fi romance and adventure stories but must admit I rarely write a review. I found Ms Eidem's books on the offchance and I just love them. I've now read two (Nikhil and Treyvon) and am about to start a third. I just cannot put them down. What a wonderful author! Keep producing these books, Michelle. I just love them.
Love M.K Eidem! Was put onto this author by another avid scifi romance reader and fell in love. My only problem is that I read faster than she writes! I enjoyed every book that she has written and really hope that there are more to come. Please keep writing! You have a massive fan here.
MK Eidem has managed to write another story that is beautiful and touching. Usually the grammatical and editing errors that all her works contain would drive me so crazy that I couldn't read it, but her stories are so evocative that I found it relatively easy to get lost in the worlds she has created. I can't wait for more!
I read the first two books of the Tornian series and for some reason I felt like reading the Kaliszians before continuing. I am glad I did as it felt perfect in terms of the timeline. I enjoyed many aspects of this book, particularly the beads lore. But I felt the couple were engaged in too much of constant unnecessary drama. Being deeply hurt by stuff that wouldn't matter most of the days let alone in the situation they find themselves so that got old for me. Also, I found a bit weird that Kaliszians had technology advanced enough to travel across universes and repair a body completely in hours, including replenish nutrients! -- buy couldn't come up with a tech to create synthetic food? Also, that they have not found more ways to get food and are solely reliable on the Tornians is to me a huge plot whole. I mean, who would do that? It is not like they are poor. They have resources. Those details if dealt with, would just make the series richer and therefore more enjoyable. Still, a good start and I look forward to the next book.

I love reading M. K. Eidem's books, and this and Treyvon's are no different.
As for Nikhil's, it is a well written and developed story about Mackenzie and Nikhil's journey overcoming both cultural differences and physical attacks. Great start to the spinoff from the Tornians series.
Just one think niggling me, there's a spelling mistake concerning the enemy on the other side of the Kaliszian Empire, either the 'Ratak' or 'Radek'.
This first book in the Kaliszian series was exciting from the first page. I have not read such a good first book in a long and can't wait to read the next book in the series keep them coming please.
