Product description

Product Description

Though he’s still tormented by his brother’s murder and the accident that ended his career, ex-homicide detective Liam Dempsey is trying to move on. His girlfriend and their adopted son are the best things that ever happened to him—and being a police liaison is the next best thing to being back on the force. But when an old friend asks for his help, Liam is thrust into a harrowing investigation that reawakens his darkest personal demons.

A politician has been violently attacked, and his wife is kidnapped for ransom. But as police mobilize to track the victim and trap her abductor, the case takes a chilling turn from extortion to grisly murder. Whoever snatched Valerie Farrow wants blood and money—and they’re brutally collecting.

Working with, and against, the police, Liam is forced to dig deep to expose the ugly truth—even if it means digging his own grave in the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing storytelling! 15 August 2016

This has to be my favourite novel so far by Joe Hart! I couldn't put it down! I was hooked from the beginning and was on the edge of my seat till I read the last sentence. Joe is such a talented writer. He is able to create a world so real that you feel like you are right there with the characters. I can't wait to see where he takes us next!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read 19 July 2017

I enjoyed the book totally! I especially liked the story line and Liam was great. I felt that some description were too much but after really thinking about how it added to having you feel like you were there I changed my mind. His in depth descriptions ends up having you feel like you are right in the middle of the action. Liam has the habit of getting into trouble and by the end which was hard to predict I felt I was part of the story. This continued in the next book. Great rea!!
I have given the same review for both this book and The River is Dark as I totally enjoyed both books

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Surprises 13 March 2017
By Jenel Still - Published on Amazon.com

Liam Dempsey used to work for the Minneapolis police department, the police work is still with him. One day he gets a call from a friend of his who's wife has been kidnapped. Liam drives to Owen's to be with him, and ends up helping with the case. There are lots of twists and turns in this book and it came as a big surprise to me as to who the kidnapper was. This is an excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A special thank you 28 October 2016
By Kindle Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I was first introduced to Joe Hart thru one of his earlier books. While it wasn't my cup of tea, so to speak, I liked his balance between dialog and descriptive prose. So, when I saw the first Liam Dempsey book was available I didn't hesitate to try it. I can't say that I enjoyed The Night Is Deep more, but I certainly didn't enjoy it any less. So a special thank you Mr. Hart and a special please to those who are needing a push to try this series.
4.0 out of 5 stars Much better edited now 19 July 2017
By Patricia D. Crossley - Published on Amazon.com

When I read Joe Hart's previous novel The River is Dark, I have it a to-do review because it was poorly edited (then instead of than, etc.) and those errors made reading the book frustrating. This one was much better edited, and as a result, it flowed better. His character development is also much improved, and the main character is no longer as illogical as he was in the first book. Much better. I would definitely recommend this thriller.
