Someone recommended this book to me last month. I wish I could remember who because I owe them big time.
You see, this book is the Duck’s Nuts of guerilla marketing. It details how to write newsletters that your readers love. Yes, it’s targeted at authors because authors think about writing books. Few of them think about writing to sell. More importantly, they fail to learn how to sell themselves!
Tammi teaches authors how to do this through newsletters. I’ve enjoyed selling and marketing since I first started performing shows. What she teaches can work for any self-employed person - not just authors.
The main thing is to sell without selling. So if you’re only looking for hardline selling techniques, you will be sorely disappointed (and poor).
Tammi makes her point and reinforces it numerous times. Plus she includes helpful links in the back for you to try and learn even more!
I can’t stress it enough. I love this book and it will be my bible for a long time.

Don't Buy - The Most Important Parts Are In the Discontinued Book 2
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 January 2020Verified Purchase
The author of this book, in the blurb, states "Newsletter Ninja is a comprehensive resource." Well, it's not. It's an intro. A 101 of sorts that deals more with mindsets and attitudes rather than the nuts and bolts.
I was prepared to buy Part 2 dealing with those 'nuts and bolts' but find it has been discontinued. I feel conned and she has left a bitter taste in my mouth.
No doubt she makes more selling courses on the 'nuts and bolts.' $399 (see image) She has no idea about how to treat customers!

A must read for authors using newsletters
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 September 2018Verified Purchase
I am a complete novice in regards to author mailing lists and was keen to read this to enlighten myself and begin to understand how to go about creating an engaged list of subscribers.
It was clear to me that Tammi Labrecque is indeed a professional as she used terminology I was not familiar with and I struggled to follow along in some places. By the time I reached the middle I had a list of questions, but reading further resolved the majority of them - and a few more I had to go away and work out for myself as each email messaging service provider works differently. The only question I still need to work out is how to create an 'onboarding' sequence of emails, as I did not understand how to do that at all even though it was discussed and referred to many times in the book. And things like getting subscribers to 'whitelist' your emails was again discussed and referred to and considered necessary, but there was no step-by-step about how to do this, although there were links at the end that provided more understanding. In some places there was a lack of step-by-step how to, and also explanations of terminology.
By the end, I was left a little overwhelmed with how much I would need to do to create an engaged subscriber list. And I also wondered how someone with only 30 people on their list and zero budget would achieve that as I didn't feel that this book was completely aimed at the beginner. This would be a much better book for those that have been using a mailing list and sending out newsletters but not really achieving engagement. But I knew it was up to me to decide what level of commitment I wanted to give to this as it was clear it would be time consuming no matter how I looked at it.
All that aside, the book flows really well and Tammi is engaging and funny and I really enjoyed reading it. She also provides a huge list of links at the end to help the entire process, which is invaluable in itself. I will definitely be referring to this book multiple time. And I would recommend any author who wants to create a list of engaged newsletter subscribers read it too.

Before you build your mailing list, read this book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 June 2020Verified Purchase
You know that feeling you get when you realise you should have read a book months, if not years ago? Yup, I had that moment when I opened Newsletter Ninja. And the worst part about it is… I’ve had it on my kindle since 2018 and simply haven’t had the time to get to it. Meanwhile, over all that time, everything continued to be wrong with my mailing list.
I didn’t get to read this book earlier because I knew I’d want to get through it in only a few sessions, and be in a position to make notes as I went along. So it didn’t fit into my usual last thing at night/first thing in the morning reading routine. Anyway I finally got to it and I’m delighted to have done so. Although I do now have a tremendous amount of work ahead of me to correct all the bad things I’m doing (things that right in the back of my mind I knew all along were wrong). But I feel enthused enough to get it right from now on so I shall press ahead and get the work done.
If you are thinking of building a mailing list (and if you’re an author you should be) or have one that isn’t performing as it should, get this book. It’s easy to read, and I enjoyed the conversational style Tammi has throughout. It’s full of helpful advice, tips and links so you can find out more and I urge you to do this now so you don’t become like me. I cringed at the ‘don’t do this’ bits, and again when I realised what I had been missing out on building. Don’t do that guys, get this book and set things up right from the start. You won’t regret it.

Gold dust for newsletter newbies
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 December 2019Verified Purchase
I've been listening to other authors say how important newsletter subscribers are for a long time, but only recently has the coin finally dropped in the slot. As soon as it did, Tammi's book was my first port of call (I had also been listening to other authors say how wonderfully useful her book is). She didn't disappoint. Picked up some great tips for how to engage with subscribers, which is useful for a socially awkward introvert like myself - who wants to start the conversation while also being terrified of it! What once felt like it might be a chore is fast becoming a rewarding and enjoyable part of the job. Thanks Tammi.

Great, in-depth information
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 February 2019Verified Purchase
A lot of what is said in this book is common sense, and yet despite being vaguely aware of what to do it just hasn't clicked until I read this. Tammi speaks in a friendly, accessible tone, describing the key problems that people have when writing their newsletters and how to go about fixing them. It's detailed and specific, unlike a lot of similar books. The content can be consumed, understood and applied. This year, I'll finally get my newsletter right.
