Product Description

Life is beyond our control. It can bring joy, laughter and happiness, then turn around and rip your heart out of your chest without warning.
Abel Matheson received a cold dose of life’s reality six months ago when the man he loved most lost his fight against cancer.
Free-spirited, easy-going Abel doesn’t know how to cope with the rotting, festering grief growing inside him. What was once an easy life, has become a struggle to put one foot in front of the other.
His grades are slipping, his job is suffering, money is tight, and the nightmares plaguing his sleep are relentless. Something has to give. He can’t keep going like this.
Desperate to end his suffering, Abel falls back on old habits. Self-destructive habits he knows are wrong.
Every time he tries to stand, he ends up face-first in the mud.
On the advice of a counselor, Abel makes attempts to find a support system to help him handle his grief. Unexpectedly, during his quest toward healing, Abel makes a connection with the most unlikely of people.
His mind wants to rebel against the man who stands before him. Run far and fast in the other direction. But his heart forms a bond that annihilates his fear.
Why this man of all people?
Sometimes you find help and love where you least expect it.

This book has been written as a follow-up to No Regrets.

OMG, what a beautiful story. Having read "No Regrets" l can honestly say I was looking forward to reading this, to see where life takes Abel....and I wasn't disappointed.

Abel is devastated and not coping with the loss of his hubby, Landon, when into his life pops Kieran, the nurse, that happens to also be the ex of Landon.

Things go from bad to worse for Abel, and the way the author portrayed his grief really got to me, on more than one occasion. In fact to the point I sobbed and had to stop and come back to it. This, these emotions, are the work of a good writer.

Kieran is such a lovely man. He sees Abel's pain and wants to make things better for him, but it's a rough ride for them both. With the help of Abel's brother, Soren (who I think needs his own book), they finally see a light appearing, but will they get their HEA? You will have to read it to find out.

I would totally recommend this book. Once I started I couldn't put it down. I loved it from start to finish. Well done Nicky, you done well. Also, maybe we can have a book 3???? Would love to see more from these 2.

Inhale slowly, exhale slowly…. Remember to breathe. That was my mantra while reading Abel’s Journey.
As difficult as this book was to read, Nicky did an amazing job with telling this story.
This is the sequel to “No Regrets”, and I would suggest that you read it before reading Abel’s Journey.

Abel has just lost the love of his life, his husband Landon to terminal cancer. He is struggling with school, he is struggling with work, he is just STRUGGLING.

Nicky writes Abel’s struggle in such a beautiful way…. I literally have no words!!

Will Abel be able to overcome his destructive ways??

I received an advance copy for my honest review. And my honest review is…. DON’T WAIT!!! GET THIS BOOK!! This is the BEST book I have read, period!
I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars!!

We have the incredible reviewer, Natalie (aka Natty) from She's A Lip Biter!
(make sure you guys go show these ladies some love)

Natty has decided to come review for me seeing as I am having a super rough time with this one.

If you have read No Regrets then you already know that Abel's Journey is going to be a hard-hitting, puffy eye, snotty nose, heart-wrenching story about Abel moving on and finding peace (and love) after losing Landon to brain cancer.

I Knew this was going to be a super hard read, we All Knew this. But I did not expect what I am getting now.

Nicky is an incredible author. She has a way of making surer you feel every single thing her characters are feeling and going through. Just like Landon's story, she has again knocked it out of the park with book #2.

Abel's story so real, emotional and so . . . . unapologetically raw that you can't help but break down and ugly-sob as you turn the pages.

So a HUGE thank you to Natty (and of course, She's a Lip Biter) for saving me with this one, you ladies freakin rock! <3

My review is coming soonish. Nicky's has a trigger warning up, but seriously, I think what Jamie from Alpha Book Club sums up the warning perfectly.

Word of warning- if you suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, depression, unresolved grief, have recently lost someone, or have ever had suicidal ideations or lost someone to suicide there are parts of this book that may trigger you. They are written very realistically and I found myself cycling into anxiety as Abel was experiencing each symptom. So, please heed this warning.

I am taking this baby 1 chapter at a time dues to this being a little too close to home for me to comfortably process. I am not even 20% in and lets just say, I am a mess.

xx Lil Maso

OMG where do you even begin to review this book... another devastatingly heartbreaking love story.

My heart was in my mouth and tears in my eyes for most of this story. Abel was sinking into a black hole of despair after his husband Landon lost his fight with a terminal brain tumour six months earlier.

His life was quickly spinning out of control... that is until Kieran his husbands ex comes back into his life and becomes his anchor.

He forces Abel to not run from his feelings but to embrace them, share his stories and in the process try and help them come to terms with the loss of Landon and heal both of their hearts!

This is a must read with a warning... bring lots and lots of tissues!!

I knew this book was going to break me one way or another. No Regrets ( You should really read No Regrets before taking on this book, it will give you a better understanding of what's happening) had me crying. New Beginnings ripped my heart out. It was one man's journey of dealing with life after losing his soul mate. ..his other half. His grieve, denial, loss was brutal. Yet, I understood because he's journey is my own. I could relate with every single thing and more.
Nicky has the ability to draw you in the story, on this roller coaster ride of emotions. He was on a path of self destruction and in that storm, he found a anchor, something to hold onto. To help him out of the dark and into the light. I'm happy he found peace and love after Spidey. Eagerly awaiting Soren's story.
I highly recommend this book, with tissues because tears will fall at one point.

New Beginnings: Abel's Journey by Nicky James is the follow up to No Regrets.
Both books can be read as standalones, but I recommend to read the books in order, there are cross-overs.
I read No Regrets some time ago and LOVED this book so much. I really couldn't wait to read New Beginnings too.
New Beginnings: Abel's Journey picks up 6 months after Landon's dead.
Abel Matheson, his widower is shattered in body and soul. He is trapped in his own hell, lost and struggling, drinks too much and his life is slipping out of his hands.

In an desperate attempt to get better he visits Landon's relative and makes a connection with a person, a most unlikely person.

Favorite Quote : " Sometimes you find help and love where you least expect it. "

New Beginnings: Abel's Journey gutted the hell out of me. I read this book in one sitting, I couldn't put it down. I had more than one ugly cry while reading and I was so so grateful for the well deserved and hard earned HEA. This book has everything, great characters and a great story .
It is beautifully thought out, beautifully told and beautifully written.
I LOVE this book so much, I Highly recommend it and wish I could give more than 5 Stars, thank you Nicky James !

This is the second book in this series though it can be read as a standalone. Don’t, I repeat don’t do it read the first book No Regrets. This is a follow-up. Yes, you will cry, you will be devastated and you will feel the love that Able and Landon had. You will understand this and so much more. Better even. Now this book is heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. I almost did not want to read it. I liked where the previous one was left. I knew going in this book was going to be tough. This one has so many triggers in it. Be aware going in. There is self-harm, depression, and addiction and anxiety issues. Again this book was so close to home. I lost my mother to cancer as a teen. I am getting teary just writing this review. I can say without a doubt, you will feel the despair and out of control nature that Abel is feeling, you will want to grab him and hug him, then smack him and tell him it will get better. It is a very realistic viewpoint

It has been six months since Landon lost his battle with brain cancer. The book opens with Abel in a bad place. He’s flunking out of school and his anxiety is at an all-time high, he’s drinking to stop the pain. He is simply trying to cope and none too well. He wants to sleep and get past the nightmares but nothing seems to help. When he makes an unexpected trip across the border, he finds help in an unlikely place.

When Abel meets up with Landon’s grandmother he inadvertently gets invited by Keiran to a memorial and donation at the hospital. Keiran was an amazing friend. He is trying to pull Abel from all his self-destructive behavior.

I can say in these books that I learned some very valuable lessons: One life is short and you need to live it to the fullest potential, two: love is love and we find it in unlikely places. Three: life goes on and we need to pull ourselves from the despair we find ourselves in and move towards the future no matter how hard or trying. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Last but not least reach out if you need help. It's ok to need someone., you are not alone. All in all this story has a great ending, but I would love to see more because I am greedy when I fall in love with characters. I would also love to see Soren’s story. There is so much left to tell even with Able. So hold on to seat and bring your tissues and be ready for a heartbreaking love story and joy. The first book left me with a book hangover and a very long and lasting impression, this one did as well and did not disappoint. I highly recommend this read.
