Who wouldn't welcome a chance to re-visit Wandin Valley? Those of us who watched the series will slip into this story like you would slide your feet into a pair of cosy slippers. And if you haven't watched the series, you will still enjoy this nostalgic multi-stranded tale of the lives of country people, centred around the fictitious Wandin Valley bush hospital.
The author worked as a scriptwriter on the series, so she is well qualified to bring the characters to the printed page. The book does betray its origins at times (the lack of back story is perhaps the most telling aspect), but that's not such a terrible thing. At least the story keeps moving along, unlike some other novels I have read recently.
