Fit: runs small. I normally wear 8.5 in other brands, I tried the 8.5s and the 9.0s. I decided to keep the 8.5s and removed the insoles to allow for more space inside the shoes. Probably, because they are designed for triathletes, one is supossed to wear them without socks. Thus the snug fit. If i wear socks, even very thin socks, i have to remove the insoles. If i wear them without socks i keep the insoles in the shoes.
Boa system: takes a while to get use to it. I found myself adjusting the Boa system several times in my first runs. Now, it takes one or two iterations to find the proper fit. The boa system has a big problem, if your hands are sweaty or wet, it is difficult to get a good grip of the knob. In warm days, i have to wipe my hands with my t-shirt to remove the sweat from my fingers to have a good grip and be able to turn the knob.
Breaking in: the shoes are fairly stiff when they are new. In my first runs my heels were lifting in every stride beacuse the sole was stiff. I think it was because of the T-beam system incorporated in the soles. Took me 50km to break them in. Now the soles are much more flexible and my heels keep in place durinag my rides. When they were new, i had to put a good amount of force to bend the shoes using my hands, now (after 50km) i can bend the shoes easily with my hands. The middle of the shoe is still fairly stiff (because of the t-beam) but not as stiff as before.
Feeling: they are good for competition as they are light and responsive. For training, i use then for sub-10k because they do not have much cushioning and on long runs my knees begin to complain.
Looks: i love them. vibrant neon colors mixed with black is a very appealing combo.
I gave them 3 starts because of the fit/size. I have found this a general problem with New Balance shoes. The sizes are all over the place.
