I bought another pair of this shoe, identical except for color, less than one year ago. They were extremely comfortable and didn't look half bad. I am hard on shoes and within a few months I had torn them up pretty bad so I ordered another pair in the same model and size, 10.5/4E. These shoes feel like they are only a 10W. Unfortunately I expected them to fit like the others so I have already worn them on a hike, meaning I cannot even return them.
Unfortunately I had a similar experience with another NB shoe: loved the first ones and wore them to death, the second pair, also ordered this fall, has a defect in the insole such that it always feels like my sock is wadded up under my toes and the suede around the toe has pulled loose from the rubber, after only 3-4 weeks wear.
Hate to say it but New Balance has gone from my go-to shoe for general wear to 'avoid at all costs' due to their total lack of QC. Sad.
If you are buying these for a walking or daily use shoe I would suggest something else. This was the intended use I was planning on but the cushioning on these seems fairly firm for my taste. Considering these are sold as a "Trail Runner" a tough material resistant to heavy shock would make sense to protect the foot while running in those conditions but it doesn't make for a comfy walker. I'm a bigger guy (6'3 240lb) so maybe that would have more to do with it. I've had old work boots with better cushioning in the ball areas of your foot so I'm not sure this shoe would work long as a trail runner before something broke (Hopefully the shoe and not your foot) . You could maybe buy some good insoles but lets be real. Why spend another $20 for insoles in a $40 pair of shoes? Just buy something better out of the gate.
I've read that New Balance shoe sizing is "true" but I'd have to say these run a tad small. So, if you think you are in the 1/2 sizes definitely, 100%, absolutely, no doubt about it, ORDER ONE SIZE UP.
I will try to update this as I put the miles on them but just from my first impression and initial walking around - I'm doubting I will be get too far before having some issues.
The color is a deep burgundy wine color and looks really nice.
I always buy 1/2 up for athletic shoes, so did the same for these and they fit nicely after warming up. Oregon trail tested. Great traction in wet conditions. Not water proof obviously, so beware dreaded streams.
These shoes are true to size and the size 10 shoes I ordered fit my size 10 feet well. The shoe provides great cushioning and support. The material is breathable and my feet don't get overly sweaty if I wear these shoes over the course of the day, and definitely help my feet breath when I wear them out for a run.
Although labeled trail shoes, I use them for casual running mostly on sidewalks (and cutting across the occasional yard) and I've been happy with their performance. They also work well for weekends when running errands and chasing after my kids.
This is the first pair I've ever returned.
Flimsy, not much padding in the sole, very uncomfortable. I returned them the same day they arrived. Not what I expect from NB. Loved the color, though.
I'll try a different NB style, and expect I'll be satisfied.
Amazon's return policy made sending them back a simple process.
