The duke in this story wants the heroine to do the most menial and unpleasant tasks. A true gentleman was brought up to protect a lady and not subject to hardship and neglect. The different levels of society were strictly enforced and nursing outside the home was usually done by the lowest of the low.
And oh my, what an endearing, heartwarming and delightful little romance. It's an historical battle of the sexes, one where the heroine is unfortunately engaged to the wrong cousin...
As for the two main characters, they were well fleshed and entirely lovable. I completely adored both Robbie and Fee (Frances) and literally read their wonderful love story in every spare second I could find. This is one of those rare books that I hated ever putting down and only did so whenever I was forced to. I loved the fact that Robbie respected Fee's intelligence and compassion too, but especially that he stood beside her when nobody else besides old Battle-Ax Brazelton would. She was another exceptional character whose lively personality made me laugh and smile, and who was a spectacular addition to this lovely tale.
The entire story takes place in a month's time and flowed along so smoothly that it was over with before I wanted it to be. Our duke was so loyal and honorable, and Fee was strong and smart and a woman ahead of her time. I not only felt a connection to them both, but their chemistry and desire for each other was truly lovely to witness as well. And even though there wasn't a single sex scene, this story didn't need one. I still wouldn't exactly call it a "clean" read however because the passion and need Fee and Robbie feel for each other is shown through their numerous thoughts, some of which are certainly not very clean.
Overall it was simply an unforgettable, fast paced, and delightful tale. Both romantic and full of emotion, it was a joy to read and a truly beautiful love story that I would highly recommend =)
