Product Description

Learn how to apply NLP to fine-tune life skills, build rapport, enhance communication, and become more persuasive

One of the most exciting psychological techniques in use today, neuro-linguistic programming helps you model yourself on those-or, more accurately, the thought processes of those-who are stellar in their fields. Rooted in behavioral psychology of the 1970s, the concepts of NLP are now common to such diverse areas as business, education, sports, health, music and the performing arts-and have been instrumental in helping people change and improve their professional and personal lives. In this handy, informative guide, you will acquire a basic toolkit of NLP techniques, with advice on the NLP approach to goal-setting, as well as insights on how you think, form mental strategies, manage emotional states, and, finally, understand the world.

  • With new content on new code NLP, symbolic modeling, clean language in the workplace and energetic NLP-techniques developed after the first edition
  • Includes updated information throughout and two new chapters: Dipping into Modeling and Making Change Easier

Not simply a guide to reprogramming your negative or habitual thoughts, this practical, down-to-earth introduction to NLP is the first step to fulfilling personal and professional ambitions and achieving excellence in every sphere of your life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much like a book of "neurosurgery for dummies" 16 September 2016

Clearly NOT for "dummies". Still, I shaved off a star because the actual field of NLP is a true specialty and the benefits would be elusive for the novice or the "do it yourself-er". Much like a book of "neurosurgery for dummies", this is a great way to learn the potential and theory behind NLP, but not a system to really use it. Still, with that being said, you get quite a lot of information on NLP here and as with most books in this series, it is well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars very helpful for making specific life improvement plans 14 January 2013

I'd recommend this book as quite helpful to self-motivated people who are interested in refining and actuating their life goals. This book clarified understanding my own communication style, and that of those around me. It was revelatory in understanding how to listen more effectively to colleagues and customers. Most of all, I have found the exercises in "well-formed outcome" to be extremely helpful in setting goals and making plans for the next things I want to do in life - basically which revolve around getting better at the things I do. I have spread out sheets of paper across the floor with categories of various self-improvements, and have worked out "well-formed outcomes" for each. It's been great to learn how much of our hopes and dreams can stay stuck as a fond wish, with little between our desire and the ability to carry out our dreams except for doing more comprehensive planning. This has been the first "For Dummies" book I've bought, as I usually start with more specific texts to learn about something, but it was recommended by a friend who has been going through teacher training in NLP. The title is ironic, as the book is premised on how self-talk affects success - nevertheless, the content is very worthwhile.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Basic Introduction 17 April 2012

NLP is a powerful model of psychology and management, incorporating the subconscious mind, the power in intention, body language, and the spoken word. In this "Dummies" book, you will get a very general overview of NLP - enough to whet the whistle, and a little more.

The concepts behind NLP are firmly rooted in the effects of our senses on the subconsious mind. NLP transforms these from a subconsious effect to a conscious one, where the NLP practitioner can influence their own or others behavior and outcomes by utilizing consciously the senses to drive behaviors.

Discussing concepts such as anchors, swoosh patterns, and the power of the sopken word, Ready and Burton also provide the reader with simple to follow practical exercises, theory and tools to introduce the reader to NLP concepts and strategies.

If you are interested in NLP, this books will give you the basics, and maybe a touch more. For a powerful and effective tool like NLP, however, like any other discipline, the Dummies book will only whet the appetite, not serve as a meal.
4.0 out of 5 stars Solid resource, big book and worth the read 21 April 2015

A great book to nail down the basics of this huge topic called "neurolinguistics programming." There are so many authors, and so many approaches, and so many techniques to each approach that a book like this must be sufficiently broad to touch on the essentials, and sufficiently deep to allow each topic to make a difference. There is also a number of solid references. I love the analogy of how to try to tackle this gargantuan field of study: the authors say to think of it like a hologram. Order is not as important as mastering each step that you learn at a time and adding that to the depth and breadth of you practice.
