She's the single mum dreaming of owning a house. He's the hotshot developer about to make her homeless.
Single mum Shasa Daniels is heartbroken to lose her beloved, cheap rental. Even worse, it's being sold to Mac McCarthy, a developer about to replace the old villa with luxury condos. Determined to stop him, Shasa gathers her friends to outbid him and build community housing instead.
Mac, the man in thousand-dollar shoes, isn't as financially stable as he makes out. He needs this condo deal to go through and it's time to keep his eyes on the prize. Definitely not the time to get distracted by some bleeding-heart hippie, no matter how sexy and cute.
Looks can be deceiving. As Shasa learns more about (okay, snoops on) Mac, she discovers one surprise after another, including a mutual love of acting and sizzling stage chemistry. The more she finds out about the real Mac, the more she's torn between her building plans and the man she's inevitably falling for. In the end, is it better to win in love or in real estate?
Escape into this absorbing, fun and heartfelt love story set against New Zealand's overheated real estate market.

About the author

Enni Amanda is a graphic designer moonlighting as a rom-com author, or maybe it's the other way around. In 2006, she and her husband moved from Finland to New Zealand and fell in love with the gorgeous islands and their laid-back people. They spent eight years traveling between the two rather inconveniently located countries, studying filmmaking and running a film festival. Through all the filmmaking, Enni discovered a passion for screenwriting, which eventually led to writing books (a slippery slope). Her heart-warming, funny stories explore real-life issues like identity, found family, and the housing crisis. These days, she lives in the Waikato, close to the rolling hills of the Shire, raising two cute, rambunctious boys while writing away and ignoring housework.

Desperate for a solution, she gets together with old friends and new to put together a bid for a community housing program. But if they’re to succeed then they need to know what Mac is up to and what bid he’s putting in. Shasa is tasked with getting closer to him, but when she does, she discovers he's not at all what she thought.
Nest or Invest is a mix of women’s fiction and romance and I loved it. It’s beautifully written, with complex and sensitive subjects handled extremely well. The characters are nuanced and well rounded, and the side characters fully developed with their own journeys. I thoroughly recommend this book!

They are battling over the fate of the rundown property Shasa rents in a close-knit neighborhood in Hamilton, on New Zealand's North Island, and both have a lot at stake if the other wins. But they find common interests, too, like Shasa's adorable, unicorn-obsessed daughter Lilla and a love of acting. And neither is quite the person they first present to each other. I really enjoyed journeying along with them to uncover their real characters and desires. The intimacy is heated at times, but does not dominate the story; I thought the author hit just the right balance in this respect and in not sugarcoating the fact that their battle's outcome brought some serious negative consequences.
The secondary characters are distinct with Shasa's social circle largely supportive and Mac's, except for his big-hearted parents, mostly into appearances and the big $s. There's a mini romance on the side and a heap of community spirit.
I found the story well paced, easy to read and, that great gift, it left me feeling upbeat and satisfied with the outcome.
