I just powered through it. Five Monkeys is a lot of fun, while it makes a few sharp observations about gender and transgender. Galvin knows how to build suspense, while never losing sight of his main character's humanity. The story is peppered with scenes of overt sex, crossing into soft porn as a lubricant for an iconoclastic view on sexuality in the 21st century. I'm looking out for Galvin's next.
A vibrant, witty and timely exploration of gender, sexuality and American politics in all its tabloid glory. Galvin obviously cares for his characters and their trials and tribulations and deftly explores what it means to be human in a refreshing and often hilarious fashion. A brilliant read from start to finish.
