Product description

Product Description

He was an only child growing up in Kansas during the times of segregation.
The combination of a very loving and caring mother along with a hardworking father, Lewis knew he had a chance to make a difference even though the odds were against him.

After finishing high school, he attended Washburn Law School and actualized his dream of becoming a lawyer. Working several jobs in Kansas to support his wife and two young children, he knew leaving Kansas may be his only opportunity to advance his career.

Delano Lewis took a leap of faith and uprooted his family to Washington DC where he took a job with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. A short time later he took another chance and accepted a Peace Corps staff job as Regional Director in Nigeria and Uganda.

After returning home from Africa, Lewis got involved in politics as the first African American Chief of Staff to Senator Edward Brooke followed by working for Congressman Walter Fauntroy.

Later, Lewis decided to leave government for a job in the private sector with Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company (now Verizon). Serving 21 years and moving his way up the corporate ladder, he retired as president. However, he wasn’t done yet. He then accepted the position as President of National Public Radio before retiring to New Mexico.

In 1998, after a brief stint of retirement, Delano Lewis received a call from Vice President Al Gore on behalf of President Bill Clinton telling him that he had been nominated to become the United States Ambassador to South Africa. He accepted and served for nearly two years.

As the title reads, “No Condition is Permanent,” this book is an incredible story of hard work, faith, focus and vulnerability. Ambassador Delano Lewis understood early on that moving out of your comfort zone can lead to great adventures in life.
