Product Description

I made a conscious decision to cheat on my husband.

Now, before you judge me, hear my story. Hear how much I'm like you, how similar my thoughts are to your own. Yes, I'm a horrible person. Yes, I've done horrible things. Yes, I don't deserve forgiveness. Yes, bad things happened because of my actions.

But I'm willing to bet I've done things that maybe, just maybe, you have thought of doing.

Maybe, just maybe, you're not as innocent as you'd like to think.

Or maybe I'm not so guilty ...

This blew me away, so I devoured it. I started reading it in bed, the next thing I knew it was 4.30am. Firstly I hate cheaters & yes there are consequences. So know this going in.

There are many tales of friends to lovers, usually more like second chance stories however this is totally different. He was your first chance. You can love your friend but not be 'in love' with them. So Mischa takes you on her journey of discovery in this regard.

Don't think she wasn't remorseful, it's dealt with many times. The finality of it was a major loss for her however believe it or not the ones who condemned her also discovered something for themselves. It's so well written that you feel part of it. Something I love so I couldn't put this down. I don't want to give away the plot as you have to feel it for yourself. There are some twists & turns adding some intrigue as well.

It's not a simple tale, people are hurt but they recover slowly. As for the affair it's that soulmate kind of thing but how to act on it is another story. Tal, the mystery man, wow wow wow! I'm not saying anything more here. You have to read it to find out.

This is so angsty it sucks at times. In conclusion you really can't hate anyone here. Life isn't easy but Mischa isn't happy so she acts not it. Should she have ended her marriage before contemplating her affair, in hindsight it would've been the best option but then we wouldn't have this heart wrenching story......& her journey of discovery.

What can I say? I was a little reluctant to read this book - not because of the subject matter but because I MUST have a HEA and I wasn't sure I was going to get it. However I read a review and decided to buy and I am very happy I did. Not sure why books with infidelity are widely criticised - it happens in real life and I don't see why it should be shunned by the wider reading audience. Anyway, I was thoroughly impressed with the storyline and the writing of this book - it kept me hooked all the way through. I also liked the commitments of the author - I appreciate an author focused on the audience and hope the mission statement could be adopted by a few more authors. (Note - I have about 10 books waiting for sequels more than a year later!!!) I recommend this book - it has all the essential elements - lust, sex, angst, love, drama, HEA - and some cheating! The abundant self flagellation by the 'heroine' may have been slight overkill but a good read nonetheless!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story! 26 December 2016

I agree, this topic is taboo with a lot of romance readers, but I'm definitely not one of them. So many women will boycott a story dealing with adultery because it's wrong in their eyes, yet they'll also read dark or BDSM stories and would never dream of doing that in real life. I think this story is exactly how a lot of women feel but are afraid to voice and I thank Stylo for writing it. You never know how you'll truly feel unless faced with a similar situation. Mischa did approach things wrong. She should have been honest up front with Michael. But she wasn't and things happened. Oh boy did they happen and happen real good. I want a Tal of my own! I was not prepared for the whopper of a secret either. Such a good story and should not be missed, even if you disagree with this topic. Reading these situations can also help you understand how these situations occur or keep it from happening in your own marriage. Treat it as research and don't miss reading this really good story, about an affair.
5.0 out of 5 stars I absolutely loved this book. 29 November 2015

I can respect how certain people don't appreciate the concept of cheating. What I don't understand is why take deserving stars away from an author that has beautifully written a taboo subject, that is very much a part of our society, and everyday life. Most of us have cheated or will eventually do so, to some degree. There are innocent cheating, while others are more malicious. Rather we may have cheated on something minor...or on someone, possibly even at ourselves, the act in itself isn't as virgin to anyone's character as some of us hypocritically pretend to be. I "personally" believe "it" to be a very real possibility in life, every now and then we all go through emotional imbalance... all it takes is to be faced with the perfect storm of a situation, at the precise time of an ideal inviting one is immune to it, as long as life breathes within you and temptation corners all your surrounds, you all have vulnerable moments. We are all flawed humans beings. Life has taught me day in and day out that every finger someone immaturely pointed at others or even when silently judge in their heads, has or will come back to point at themselves in the future. Life rotates at a vicious circles... events may happen to "others" first and we quickly jump into premature conclusions... but it may just be in full speed toward our way to whack us in our own butts, and then it wont be as judgmental enough or as wrong in our eyes any longer. I loved this has earned my 5 STARS. it is so truthful and realistic that i am willing to bet there are millions of people living unhappily & wasting their precious life right now, just because they are afraid to act upon their hopes, dreams...wishes and desires.

Readers tend to steer clear of the "cheater" romances. I don't know why - it's a fact of life whether we like it or not. Stylo handles the topic very carefully and I love her for it.

So, we have Mischa Rapaport. A woman who marries her best friend, Mike. Things are ok for a while, but then things in the relationship start to stagnate. Mischa keeps trying to get Mike to talk about the trouble and address the issues through counseling or other means, but he resists. Mischa makes up her mind to do something about her frustration and takes an assignment at work that will require several months working overseas. When she gets the freedom she was waiting for to cheat on her husband, she finds that she just can't do it... until Tal Canaan enters the picture. Tal strips away all of Mischa's inhibitions and boy oh boy, is their first encounter steamy!!

These situations are real and I felt that Mischa's emotions were depicted perfectly - so much so, that I had tears rolling several times.

I highly recommend this book. Bravo, once again Stylo! Fantastic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mischa and Tal will burrow into your heart 7 May 2015

Even though it's obvious as to what this book will be about, do not let it deter you from reading it if you avoid cheating in books at all costs. I would say go ahead and make an exception for this one. I've read some heart wrenching stories about infidelity before, and I would say that this one is fairly low on the angst factor, but still manages to capture both the beauty and the ugliness of the whole situation. Having said that, I loved this book! Mischa is heading overseas by herself as part of her job to do an extended assignment that starts in Rome. I could completely relate to her. She was in a marriage with a great guy but they didn't have the kind of chemistry that made her feel desired and he wasn't reciprocating on her attempts to improve the quality of their relationship. For someone who is pre-meditating on cheating, that speaks volumes about where Mischa's head is regarding the future of her marriage, she has her reasons for not ending it sooner and I really couldn't blame her even though it didn't justify anything.

Tal, oh wow, Tal, he was a force to be reckoned with, consequences be d*mned. I love how he and Mischa first meet. He is very captivating, direct, perceptive, sexy and unapologetic. He is the sort of man who goes after what he wants, is impossible to embarrass, and is also a bit of a loner. He's an opportunist, too, so when he sees Mischa, he already knows what she needs and capitalizes on the situation because it benefits him as well. Although they were meant to go their separate ways, they keep coming back to each other and feelings begin to seep in.

Mischa started to come out of her shell as Tal pushed her, but Tal could also be tender and sensitive when necessary, yet he would never make excuses. Mischa regained a part of herself that she hadn't seen for a long time. Despite sharing some of the most intimate parts of themselves, what they have together is not meant to be permanent. Something built on lies, no matter how amazing, can only crash and burn.

People aren't always what they appear to be on the outside and while Mischa put herself in a situation that created self-loathing for her, I still advocated for her because she was so transparent about everything, she didn't try to dodge the blame. When she was at her lowest point, she still had Tal's unwavering love and affection because he was willing to fight for her and for them no matter how unfeasible a future together would be.

After everything is said and done, can Mischa rebuild herself and believe in the authenticity of what she had with Tal? Can she forgive, be forgiven, and be happy again? Definitely a worthwhile read!

I genuinely liked this authors writing style. While the topic may have been difficult to read about, the author's ability to piece words together made this story less jarring.

'My Time in the Affair' was written mainly in the third person, however it switches back and forth to first person POV. Normally, this would have bugged the heck out of me, but it was done so perfectly, seamlessly, that the style added so much to the book. Having a narrator I think softened the story. Being an outsider looking in made the situation easier to stomach.

I am a rare reader in that cheating in a book does not normally bother me if it serves a purpose in the storyline. That is because it is a normal, every day fact of life. It's destructive, it's dangerous, it's life-altering, but it's real. I have never read a book that was about the cheating event, though, where it was the central theme. Even though I read the blurb, read the *warning*, I had no idea this was about cheating. And yet, I still enjoyed it.

Mischa was in a marriage, not a relationship. Even though she and her husband had been married for 8 years, there was something missing, something tangible, a connection. They had been best friends for so long, that it felt like that was all they were. She tried talking with her husband about it, but he kept glossing over her opinion and told her everything was fine.

When the opportunity came up to leave for two months to work in Italy and Turkey, she gladly took it. This was her chance, her chance to *feel* something. She had thoughts of cheating, of being with another man, but had never acted on it, but if she were far away, maybe?

Tal had been working in Italy when he saw her in a cafe being propositioned by an overzealous man. Coming to her rescue, he interrupted the eager advances of the other man, and claimed her as his wife. And so it began. Several looks, right words and charming personality lead her willingly astray.

Ms. Fantome doesn't let our heroine off easily. She has a great deal of guilt and remorse. And her road in dealing with the affair was never easy.

Surprisingly to me, there were a couple of plot twists. One I suspected, the other I never saw coming. I did struggle at times with feeling like one of the twists was a little over the top, and had a difficult time seeing why the added drama was needed. It was almost like another book could have been written with that plot and I would have loved it, but when added in this story it felt a little disjointed and unneeded.

I would definitely recommend My Time in the Affair and I look forward to reading something from this author again!
