Why is the only character a girl?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 March 2020Verified Purchase
Firstly, I should say that I am a mental health volunteer supporting young children. Personally, I'm disappointed in this book as all my children are boys and I was looking for a book that would help them express, understand and talk about their feelings and emotions in a simple and meaningful way. This book only features a girl - and there lies the problem. So does this mean only girls have feelings? That it's only girls who have emotions? What message does this send out to the boys reading this?
On the plus side, I have to acknowledge it is a lovely looking book, beautifully illustrated and well written...BUT we have to acknowledge that everyone has feelings.

Such a beautiful book my daughter enjoys touching the hearts and likes the pictures and colours it really engages her mind
My daughter was really struggling with understanding and expressing her developing emotions and assaulting me and I mean assaulting me me quite badly I used this book along in combination with a no hitting book and time outs and talking to her about her feelings to reach her to help her get to grips with her emotions thankyou for the book I have managed to tame her and she understands her feelings and can communicate so much better due to this book
She loves the book so much she actually takes it out and looks at it her self chatting away with her toys about the emotions
And she often asks myself and husband how we are feeling today
Thank you to Jo Witek

Fantastic book that everyone should have
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 February 2019Verified Purchase
The Mental Health Book Club Podcast loved this book, both Becky and Sydney gave it 5*.
This book is a fantastic read and is a must for schools, children’s libraries as well as children’s bookshelves. The books heart concept is perfectly represented by the cut-out heart which decreases in size as the book moves on.
It is fun, beautiful and a great teaching tool. The book explains emotions in a simple and yet profound way. Children are able to understand the variety of emotions we feel and understand how you might feel them physically.
The book can be read alone by advanced readers, but more usefully it can be read with an adult to help start a conversation around emotions and their validity.

A must have children’s book!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 January 2020Verified Purchase
Bought this to help talk about emotions with my 3 year old and it is wonderful. After the first read my daughter mentioned an emotion (anger about talked about the situation) that she had previously not been able to verbalise and I honestly believe that sitting together reading this book enable us to open her feelings up. This book had been sat on my to buy list for quite while and I only bought it when I knew my daughter needed to communicate something (as she was acting out a little) but wasn’t finding the words and it really has helped to her. It’s going to be a daily read over the next few weeks to help normalise emotions and to label her feelings in different situations. I personally think this is a must buy children’s book and will definitely be buying it again for presents.

Good Gentle Parenting Resource
Very good way of helping your young child understand and express big feelings which can be confusing to them. Perfect for parents following gentle parenting techniques, also it's a good resource for "Time In's". It only deals with anger/frustration via "my heart is mad" but it can help them start to vocalise their anger/frustration rather than act on it at via tantrums etc.
It covers a wide enough range of emotions which you can refer to so when they are feeling them you can quote bits of the book so they understand how feelings change.
