This is a great continuation to this series by Eden and I am really enjoying her work. I would recommend this to people who want a mix of modern culture and magic with a good dose of sexy pirate elves :)

Guess I'll start with a small mild warning for spoilers, really mild but just in case. With this book taking place on both sides of the portal the story has excellent progression with the relevant stories on both sides. The characters on both worlds really grow into fuller, more rich people. But its not just the growth of current characters we are also introduced to many new characters that I absolutely loved. A certain sword warrior comes to mind here... yes a tease I know. But again one of Eden's hallmark traits is her exceptional skill at building characters and how those characters interact with one another. That it cannot be all sunshine, booze and sex as much as we may want, Eden brings the pain of life, drama and character growth from those very well. The adult scenes in this book continue the trend of tasteful, but there's also some risque elements there too. And the character growth associated with that. The story of the Dragons is really well furthered too but it also led to a lot of excellently done foreshadowing. All in all this is a much bigger book in the series than previous but the choice to keep it that big is well done as I couldn't see a point within the story where a clear demarcation would be ok. Was the perfect size, and a perfect story. More please!

Great story, I started it and couldn't put it down. New members join the crew and the stakes get higher and higher. The first half of the book is life on alternate Urth. The MC Jon Song and his pirate girlfriends spend time getting to know each other better, and relations with his family are dealt with -- at least somewhat.
The second half is life in Aquiris and dealing with the Empire. If you've read the first three books, a LOT happens in this book. If you are tempted to buy this book, do yourself a favor and start from the beginning. This light novel series is transforming itself into a tale of rousing high adventure and doing it in a grand style. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Highly recommended. Aye, for broadsides.
I really love the progression of the characters in this book. They all grow and mature more with the trials they faced in this one, especially Jon.
More dragon backstory with Jon and Cora getting new runes. I'm wondering what happens when they get all thirteen runes. The political intrigue and conflict with the empire is growing more interesting to me. I am looking forward to how things unfold as the story moves forward. With the addition of an airship I wonder how things are going to evolve and what other tech they will discover.
