This first hand account of Monica Stanley was absolutely delightful. I have been reading scholarly books on the early stages of WWI and came across this Diary. Ms. Stanley offers an honest and forthright view of Serbia and her people. I am so thankful that this account was offered for free through Amazon. I am astonished at the hardships that these men and women went through to come to the aid of wartime ally. Ms. Stanley does not delve into her emotional feelings for taking the adventure, and this would have given the diary a stronger impact, but still this is a great journal-a peek into a time forgotten.
