While I didn't hate this book, it definitely left me disappointed. The main character is an all-around slacker and despises school. Yet we are supposed to be rooting for the guy? Nope. I can't do it. While I can appreciate a book about a clever person who outsmarts an adversary or a system, I cannot cheer for a person who is inept and lazy - no matter how brilliant their idea may be. As a former teacher, I can say that I was far more annoyed by the lazy kids than the hyper kids, and the main character is definitely a lazy individual.
The author tries to make humorous scenarios and dialogue - though, being British, not all of it comes across as funny as it might seem to a British reader, rather than an American reader, such as myself. Honestly, there were very few spots that made me crack a grin, so I wasn't overly impressed with the author's comedic attempts.
Overall, the book was a bit of a drag to read. Try as I might to like it, I just didn't, and finishing it took longer than I had anticipated. The book isn't terrible, but my recommendation to others is definitely to take a pass on it.
