One of my favorite love stories ever - best friends to lovers. It happens a lot in real life and Hazel writes about every day occurrences in a very special way. I love how she takes the events from the past and fuses them with present day to gradually build up the relationship between Andi and Shane. This book explores the relationship complications when transitioning from friends to being more than friends. Both Andi and Shane go through the stages of feeling the intense attraction, then second-guessing the signals, denial, fear of rejection and then of losing their treasured friendship and the point of no return. What makes it more complicated was that Shane's twin sister is also Andi's dearest friend. Andi and Shane knew that they felt something special starting 15 years ago but they never acted on it. There is always that one tumultuous moment that brings everything to a head and they could no longer deny the love they have for each other. I know the plot is simple but it is Hazel's writing style that make it magical and sets it apart from similar themed love stories.
I usually am a speed reader because there are too many books to enjoy but too little time. However, I did not want to miss a single bit of the cleverly crafted conversations and internal dialogues. The words flow beautifully and the witty comebacks and humor make me wish I could talk like the characters in Hazel's stories. Hazel is one of my favorite authors and when she announced that she had a new release, I downloaded it straightaway. She doesn't disappoint. They make my humdrum commute to work exciting and totally entertaining.
