Product Description

Detective Lena Gamble knows how to handle the hottest cases--do it fast and keep her head down. Because if it all goes south, the department won’t hesitate to make a scapegoat out of her. So when she gets called to the scene of a double murder at Club 3 AM, the latest A-list hangout for Hollywood celebs, she knows the fun is only beginning.

And she's not wrong. It's just much worse than she imagined. As expected, one of the victims is club owner Johnny Bosco, one of the most well-connected men in Hollywood politics. But the shocker comes when Lena sees the other victim: twenty-five-year-old Jacob Gant, acquitted just days ago of murdering his sixteen-year-old neighbor, after L.A.'s latest trial-of-the-century.

But are these victims of a father's righteous anger or is something bigger at play?

Robert Ellis delivers all the twists and turns fans have come to expect in this bestselling series with plenty to spare in Murder Season, his most outstanding white-knuckled thriller yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Too cute for it's own good. 15 September 2015

Good complex stories. Good layering and intertwining of threads. Believable characters.
The only trouble I have with this book is Ellis is obviously a bright guy in order to weave the story the way he does.
I wonder if he's not too invested in providing so many twists and plot changes that he reduces the protagonist to a follower who is ineffectual. Seems like she's in competition with the author and of course loses.
Another thing that bothered me is one of the red herring suspects could not be found with a gun but upon searching his home they found a receipt for a gun that was paid for with a credit card and mailed to him from Arizona. This was completely bogus as a pilot point. If someone pays for a gun with a credit card from an Arizona Gun dealer it would mean that dealer has violated Arizona, California and federal laws. A gun dealer has a Federal and sometimes a state license to do business. That's his rice bowl. The mark up on guns is about 30%. It's ludicrous to think that someone would violate all these laws for an unknown customer in a different state, risk losing his means of earning a living and risk going to jail for a two hundred dollar profit on a 9mm pistol. It's even more stupid when one realizes that the buyer in the book is not a criminal and could have purchased the gun in California legally with no prohibitions. If he wanted the character to have a secret gun, it should have been a stolen gun, like most of the gangsters use.
One last thing. He mentions that a character had a Glock pistol with the safety on. Another unforced error. Block pistols have no safety lever, they have a long take up on the trigger which is the safety. The guns safety is on until the trigger is pulled back probably more than half way. This doesn't take a lot of research, just go to Glocks web site or a youtube video and you can get a perfectly find explanation of they system. Lazy boy Ellis. Do your homework.
5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Book by Robert Ellis. 3 April 2017

I have read all the Lena Gamble novels and the stories are unique, interesting and well thought out. They keep you engaged and guessing all the time. Lena Gamble, the detective, is smart and thorough, she won't stop until justice is done regardless of politics and the threats of loosing her job. Robert Ellis novels are smart and very well written and I highly recommend them.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Lena Gamble Thriller/Murder Mystery 28 September 2015

Well, at the very least Robert Ellis always gives the reader a great, twisted plot and very well developed characters. Like the other Gamble books, this plot has plenty of characters who are certainly capable of doing the bad deeds and plenty of evidence that can lead the reader down the wrong paths to a culprit. That means that the reader is certainly entertained and kept guessing to the very end. There is also plenty of bad politics involved -- those who should be doing the right thing actually doing very bad things to cover their asses! Lena Gamble is a very strong character, one well worth reading. She has the integrity that other characters should have. I certainly hope Ellis is busy writing more about her. I am anxiously awaiting another dose of Lena. I highly recommend all Ellis books and Lena Gamble books in particular.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lena Gamble, as amazing as ever! 24 December 2011

Robert Ellis's new addition to his Lena Gamble series is an amazing book, filled with twists and turns that you will not see coming. Ellis has created one of the best characters in the genre. Lena is confident and persistent in what she does. However, her scars are real and make her more determined to see that justice is upheld no matter what the cost. The book has a presence about it. As I read it, I imagined it as a film, in black and white, with that eerie sense that something wrong is right around the corner. The long wait for the new Lena Gamble book was well worth it. I so hope that a new one is in the future. It would be devastating to lose characters like Lena and company and the nail-biting, up-all-night stories they tell. You must read this book. However, you should start with the first Lena book so that you fully understand her story and that of the other characters Ellis created.Long live Lena Gamble and the man who brought her to life. Lena, you rock!
